About Chandigarh TGT

In Chandigarh government schools, Trained Graduate Teacher posts are called Masters and Mistresses. The Department of School Education advertised 303 regular TGT posts across 12 subjects through Advertisement No. 05/2023, dated 9 February 2024, at pay level 7 (Rs 9,300 to 34,800 plus grade pay Rs 4,600). Samagra Shiksha, Chandigarh hires TGTs separately on contract; its Advertisement No. 2/2025 closed on 5 September 2025 and has its own terms.

Age limit

General category: 21–37 years, counted on 1 January 2024.

Age relaxation

  • SC, OBC, ex-servicemen, PwBD and other categories get relaxation under Government of India and Chandigarh Administration instructions. The advertisement does not list the number of years.
  • Contract teachers, guest teachers and Samagra Shiksha teachers working in Chandigarh government schools on the closing date get relaxation equal to the time they have worked there, rounded to the nearest month.
  • Relaxation and reservation are given only if you produce the certificate from the competent authority at document verification.

Qualification

Other conditions

  • The 303 posts in 2024 were 136 General, 55 SC, 82 OBC and 30 EWS, with 30 for ex-servicemen and 12 for persons with benchmark disabilities counted within these.
  • OBC reservation applies only to castes on the Union Territory, Chandigarh OBC list.

What they ask

Part B carries two-thirds of the marks and is set at the level of the degree the post asks for, so expect graduation-level physics and chemistry in the Science Non-Medical paper, not school science. The published syllabus for that paper runs from quantum physics and spectroscopy to calculus and linear programming. Part A is short but broad: 12 questions each on general awareness with reasoning, ICT and teaching aptitude, plus 14 language questions split across English, Hindi and Punjabi. Each part has its own 40% cut-off, so a strong subject score cannot cover a weak Part A.

How to prepare

  • Give Part B most of your time, but take Part A seriously: you need 40% in each part separately, and Part A has only 50 questions to get there.
  • Prepare the four Punjabi questions even if Punjabi is not your subject. Language sections are set only in that language, and each wrong guess costs 0.25 marks.
  • Work through the subject syllabus the department posted for your post. For Science Non-Medical the 100 questions are split 33 physics, 33 chemistry and 34 mathematics, so none of the three can be dropped.
  • Get your CCC or equivalent ICT certificate before results. The final merit list is issued only after that certificate is checked.
  • Keep your B.Ed. marksheet ready, since equal written marks are broken by B.Ed. marks first and then by age.
