About TRBT STGT
STGT is TRBT's recruitment test for graduate teachers of Classes IX and X in Tripura government schools. The 2025 test was for 700 posts, of which 28 were for PH candidates and 14 for ex-servicemen. You choose one of three subject options, but TRBT prepares a single common merit list from the test marks alone.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: Up to 40 years, counted on 29 August 2025.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 5 years
- SC, ST, PH and government servants: 5 years; SC, ST or PH government employees do not get a further 5 years
- Ex-servicemen: as per norms
Qualification
Graduation or post-graduation with at least 50% in either (45% under the NCTE 2002 regulations) plus a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution, or a 4-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution.
Other conditions
- You need a Permanent Resident Certificate of Tripura (PRTC).
- SC, ST and PH candidates get up to 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks of the degree. SC and ST certificates must be issued in Tripura.
- In-service candidates must produce a no-objection certificate at document scrutiny.
- Women get 33% reservation under the GA(P&T) Department notification of 28 June 2022.

What they ask
STGT 2025 is a single paper of 150 one-mark MCQs with no negative marking, set in English and Bengali. The Social Science option splits marks across History (40), Geography (40), Political Science (35) and Economics (35), while the two science options have three groups of 50 marks each. The History part runs from sources of ancient Indian history through the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals to the freedom movement. You can pick any option whatever your degree subjects were.
How to prepare
- Pick the option your graduation subjects cover best; the prospectus lets you choose any of the three but locks the choice once you apply.
- Work through the TRBT syllabus for your option unit by unit. In Social Science, History and Geography together carry 80 of the 150 marks.
- Attempt every question in mocks: there is no negative marking, and you need 75 marks (68 for SC, ST and PH) to enter the merit list.
- Solve the 2019 STGT papers for Social Science, Biological Science and Pure Science on the TRBT website to see the question style.
