About Puducherry UDC (CGL)
The Puducherry Examining Authority fills Upper Division Clerk posts (Group C, pay level 4) through its Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination. Advertisement No. 01/CGL/PEA/2026, dated 13 March 2026, listed 221 UDC posts under DP&AR, and an addendum of 15 March 2026 added 37 UDC posts in the Local Administration Department. The same CGL covers junior engineers, draughtsmen, Section Officer, Sub-Inspector of Fisheries, museum assistants and a few other posts, 351 in the original table. Everyone takes the common Paper I, and UDC applicants take Paper II(A).

Age limit
General category: 18–32 years, counted on 13 April 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The 3 years for backward classes covers MBC, OBC, EBC, BCM and BT candidates.
- The Local Administration Department UDC post (1023/2026) has a lower upper limit of 30 years.
- Ex-servicemen get their period of military service plus 3 years.
- Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who have not remarried can apply up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST).
- PwBD relaxation for reserved candidates is over and above their category relaxation.

- You must be a native of the UT of Puducherry and have lived there continuously for the 5 years before the notification date.
- You apply separately for each CGL post you want, quoting its post code. If you are shortlisted for more than one, the authority asks for your order of preference.

What they ask
The annexure to the CGL advertisement says questions can come from any topic suited to a graduate and that there is no fixed number of questions per section. Paper I is the common paper: reasoning with verbal and non-verbal items, arithmetic up to data interpretation, English usage from error spotting to cloze passages, general studies, ethics and morality, and computer basics. Paper II(A) is a general paper of Class 12 subjects plus history, polity, environment and contemporary India. For UDC both papers count equally, so a weak Paper II(A) cannot be hidden behind a good Paper I. Paper I and Paper II(A) are printed in English and a regional language, and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
How to prepare
- Treat the two papers as equal, because the UDC merit list gives them equal weight, and plan to clear 30% (unreserved) in each.
- Work through the arithmetic list in the annexure topic by topic: percentage, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, and data interpretation.
- For Paper II(A), revise Class 11 and 12 science and maths along with history, polity and environmental science. The paper covers all four groups.
- Keep a few days for ethics and morality. It is a named Paper I section and most clerk exam books do not cover it.
- Practise the English and arithmetic sections of Paper I as daily topic-wise quizzes on the free Improvam app, and note the question types you keep missing.

How to apply
- Register on https://recruitment.py.gov.in with your mobile number and email ID; the username and password come by SMS.
- Apply separately for each CGL post code you want (1018/2026 for DP&AR UDC, 1023/2026 for Local Administration UDC).
- Upload the documents listed in the advertisement, your photograph and your signature.
- Preview and submit before the closing date. Corrections are allowed only until the closing date.
