About Puducherry VAO
Village Administrative Officers are the Revenue Department's staff at village level, a Group C post at pay level 4. The notification dated 20 May 2025 listed 41 posts. Selection is by a written test at Class 12 level followed by a computer skill test, and a corrigendum of 19 September 2025 moved the skill test to the Puducherry Examining Authority. The written test was held on 21 September 2025 and the result is on the portal.

Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- The 3 years for backward classes covers MBC, OBC, EBC and BCM candidates.
- Ex-servicemen get their period of military service plus 3 years.
- Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who have not remarried can apply up to 35 years (40 for SC).
- Only Village Assistants of the Revenue Department with at least 3 years of regular service can apply as in-service candidates, up to 40 years (45 for SC).
- Meritorious Sports Persons applying under the MSP quota get 5 more years on top of any SC relaxation.

What they ask
The 2025 notification sets both papers at Higher Secondary level, and the Paper I booklet from 21 September 2025 shows it. Aptitude went beyond simple arithmetic into Class 12 maths such as functions and the equation of a straight line, next to figure-based reasoning. Science questions tested ideas like Pascal's law and SONAR, often as statement questions, and the last block covered computer terms and MS Office tasks such as working with images in PowerPoint. The notification itself is silent on negative marking, but both 2025 question booklets cut 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The computer skill test only needs 40 out of 100, but a fail there knocks you out even with a high written score.
How to prepare
- Revise Class 11 and 12 mathematics, especially functions, coordinate geometry and algebra. The 2025 Paper I opened with this kind of question.
- Practise MS Word formatting and Excel tables with formulae against a 30-minute clock. The skill test is qualifying, but it decides final selection.
- Check the computer course requirement before applying. You need at least a 6-month diploma in computer application, or computer studied at degree or diploma level, and the 2025 round did not count qualifications earned after 21 June 2025.
- Solve the Paper I and Paper II question booklets from September 2025 on the recruitment portal and compare your answers with the published key.
