About Puducherry Police Constable

The Puducherry Police Department hires Police Constables (Group C, pay level 3) by direct recruitment through the UT's recruitment portal. The 2025 notification, dated 12 August 2025, listed 148 posts: 100 for men and 48 for women, with 33% horizontal reservation for women. Selection runs through a physical standard test, a physical efficiency test, two written papers and a medical examination, and all of these are held in Puducherry. The written test for this round was held on 8 February 2026 and its result is on the portal.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–22 years, counted on 12 September 2025 (last date of the 2025 notification).

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • The 3 years for backward classes covers MBC, OBC, EBC, BCM and BT candidates.
  • Ex-servicemen get their period of military service plus 3 years.
  • Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who have not remarried can apply up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST).
  • Meritorious Sports Persons applying under the MSP quota get 5 more years on top of any SC/ST relaxation.

Qualification

A pass in Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination.

Other conditions

  • You must be a native of the UT of Puducherry and have lived there continuously for the 5 years before the notification date. A fresh nativity or residence certificate from a Revenue officer not below Deputy Tahsildar is checked at certificate verification.
  • Men: height at least 165 cm, chest 81-86 cm with at least 5 cm expansion, BMI between 18.5 and 29.9.
  • Women: height at least 154 cm and weight at least 45 kg.
  • Physical efficiency test for men: 800 m in 2 minutes 50 seconds, long jump 3.80 m, high jump 1.20 m, 100 m in 15 seconds.
  • Physical efficiency test for women: 200 m in 45 seconds, long jump 2.75 m, high jump 0.9 m.
  • Every event is compulsory and each stage must be cleared before the next. You get three chances in the long jump and the high jump. Ex-servicemen skip the physical efficiency test once they clear the physical standard test.
  • Medical standards include 6/6 distant vision in both eyes (or the other combinations listed), no colour blindness, no flat feet or knock knees, and BMI not above 29.9.

What they ask

In the Paper I set on 8 February 2026, the first block was reasoning and arithmetic: number series, paper folding and cutting, direction sense, word analogies, dice and a sum of consecutive numbers. After that came current affairs from 2025, statement-based polity questions of the "which of these is/are correct" kind, general science and general knowledge, and the last few questions were on computers. Paper II read like Class 11 and 12 textbooks, with short physics and chemistry numericals (an inductor, chemical equilibrium), geography questions on rocks and volcanoes, and Constitution questions on Articles and writs. Each question has four options and a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. You write in English plus Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam, but English language questions are not translated.

How to prepare

  • Start running before you open a book. The 800 m in 2 minutes 50 seconds for men, or the 200 m in 45 seconds for women, comes before the written test, and a miss ends your attempt.
  • Revise the Class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry and maths textbooks for Paper II, since the February 2026 paper had short numericals at that level.
  • Reasoning and arithmetic open Paper I, so practise them for speed, and skip a question you cannot solve because each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
  • Solve the Paper I and Paper II question booklets from 8 February 2026 on the recruitment portal under timed conditions, two hours each.

How to apply

  1. Register on https://recruitment.py.gov.in with your mobile number; the username and password arrive by SMS.
  2. Log in, change the default password and fill in the Police Constable application.
  3. Upload your photograph and signature as described in the notification.
  4. Check the preview and click SUBMIT. An application left at the preview stage is rejected.
  5. MSP quota applicants also post the printed application with sports certificates to the Special Officer (Police), Police Department, Puducherry by the date given in the notification.
