About Puducherry Electricity JE
The Electricity Department of Puducherry recruits Junior Engineers (Electrical), a Group B technical non-gazetted post that merges the old Junior Engineer Grade II cadre. The notification dated 11 March 2025 listed 73 posts, and those selected can be posted in any region of the UT. Selection is by a two-paper written exam alone. A diploma with 3 years' experience is the essential qualification, and the final list goes purely by written marks, whether you hold the diploma or the desirable engineering degree.

- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The 3 years for backward classes covers OBC, MBC, EBC and BCM candidates.
- The 10 years for persons with benchmark disabilities is for unreserved candidates; reserved PwBD candidates get more, as set out in the notification.
- Ex-servicemen get their period of military service plus 3 years.
- Defence personnel disabled in operations get 3 years (8 for SC/ST).
- Government servants can apply up to 35 years (38 for OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM, 40 for SC/ST) under the in-service conditions.

Other conditions
- You must be a native of the UT of Puducherry or have lived there continuously for the 5 years before the closing date.
- In the 2025 round, diploma holders had to post a hard copy of the online application with their diploma and experience certificates to the Electricity Department by 8 April 2025.

What they ask
Paper II decides three-quarters of your score, and the 2025 booklet was a straight diploma-level electrical paper with all quantities in SI units. Early questions covered computer basics such as converting binary to decimal, what HTTPS and USB stand for, polling, and hard-disk read-write heads. Estimation and costing came as short calculations, for example a wiring cost worked out per point. Machines questions asked about regenerative braking, slip in a single-phase induction motor, the commutator in a DC generator and identifying a motor from its picture. Paper I is a general aptitude paper at Class 12 level, and both papers are in English only with 0.25 marks cut per wrong answer.
How to prepare
- Put most of your time into Paper II, since it carries 75% of the weightage. Go through the notification's topic list one by one, from circuit laws to utilisation.
- Do not skip estimation and costing or computer basics. Both are named in the Paper II syllabus and both appeared in the 2025 paper.
- Revise machines with diagrams: induction motor slip, DC generator parts, braking methods and synchronous machines. The 2025 paper asked you to identify a motor from a figure.
- Still clear the 30% minimum in Paper I (for unreserved candidates). A good Paper II score does not count if you fall below the minimum in either paper.
- Get your experience certificate ready early. Diploma holders need 3 years' post-diploma experience, and the certificate is checked by the Government.
