About MTET
MTET is the teacher eligibility test for Classes I to VIII in Mizoram, conducted by MBSE on behalf of the state government. It applies to government, deficit and government-aided schools; unaided private schools may accept CTET instead. Passing MTET does not give you a job. It makes you eligible to apply when teachers are recruited. MTET 2026 applications ran from 16 April to 15 May 2026, and the result was published in September 2026.

Qualification
Paper I (primary): Senior Secondary with at least 50% plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, a 4-year B.El.Ed or a 2-year D.Ed (Special Education); 45% is enough for the D.El.Ed route under the NCTE 2002 regulations. Other conditions
- The 2026 information booklet does not mention an age limit.
- SC, ST, OBC and differently abled candidates get up to 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks of the required education.
- Only NCTE-recognised teacher education courses count (RCI-recognised for special education).

What they ask
Each paper has 150 one-mark MCQs in two and a half hours, with no negative marking. Paper I covers child development, English, Mizo or Alternative English, mathematics and EVS at 30 questions each. Paper II keeps the same first three sections and adds 60 questions on either mathematics and science or social science. Questions follow the state school syllabus, but the difficulty can go up to Secondary stage for Paper I and Senior Secondary stage for Paper II. The paper is in English except for the Mizo section.
How to prepare
- Answer every question. There is no negative marking, so a blank is simply a lost mark.
- Set your target above 55%, which is 83 of 150 marks; that is the pass mark for every candidate in the booklet.
- Study the Mizoram state textbooks for the subject sections, but practise harder questions too, since Paper II can go up to Senior Secondary level.
- Decide early between Mizo and Alternative English for Language II, and prepare the pedagogy side of each subject, not just the content.

How to apply
- Register on mbseonline.com and fill the application form.
- Upload a passport-size photo and signature as shown in the booklet samples.
- Pay the fee online: Rs 600 for one paper or Rs 900 for both (General); Rs 500 or Rs 800 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD.
- Download the digital admit card from your account when it is released.
