About Meghalaya Police UB Constable
The Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of Meghalaya Police hires the UB (unarmed branch) category, which covers district police constables, fire service staff and radio and signal operators. The advertisement of 6 March 2024 listed 1,255 UB category posts at Level 4 (Rs 22,200 to 52,400): 720 Unarmed Branch Constables, 195 Firemen, 53 Driver Firemen, 26 Fireman Mechanics, 205 MPRO Operators and 56 Signal/BN Operators. Merit lists from this cycle were still being released in July 2026, and no newer advertisement had appeared on the police website by September 2026.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–21 years, counted on 1 January 2024.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- ST, OST (other Scheduled Tribes) and SC candidates get 5 years on the upper limit.
- Candidates who use the age or height relaxation for ST/SC/OST cannot claim an open-category seat.
Qualification
Class 10+2 (Twelve) passed. Driver Fireman applicants also need an HMV or LMV driving licence.
Other conditions
- Height: men 162 cm (open) or 157 cm (ST/SC, including other Scheduled Tribes of Meghalaya); women 157 cm (open) or 152 cm (ST/SC). Weight and chest are not measured.
- Fireman, Driver Fireman and Fireman Mechanic/Mechanic are for men only. 10% of vacancies are reserved for women on the other posts.
- State reservation: 40% Khasi-Jaintia, 40% Garo, 5% other tribes of Meghalaya and SC, 15% open.
- Knock knees, flat foot, squint, poor eyesight, colour blindness, varicose veins or piles disqualify at the medical.

What they ask
Under the 2024 advertisement the UB written test has three parts of 100 marks each (English grammar and usage, arithmetic and elementary science, and general knowledge), to be finished in 90 minutes. A past UB constable paper posted on the police website had 150 objective questions of 2 marks each, with 120 minutes allowed then: 50 on English, 25 each on arithmetic and basic science, and 50 on general knowledge. The English part asked antonyms, synonyms, error spotting, prepositions, spelling, voice and narration. The GK part leaned on Meghalaya, with questions on districts and the number of autonomous district councils next to national history and polity. A few questions, worth no more than 5% of the marks, may be set in Khasi and Garo.
How to prepare
- Train for the run before anything else. Men who finish 5 km in 19 minutes or less get the full 100 PET marks; every extra minute costs 10 marks, and slower than 24 minutes means you are out. For women the 3 km limits are 14 and 19 minutes.
- Only the top 20 candidates per vacancy in each category after the PET get a written test admit card, so a good PET score is what gets you into the exam hall.
- The written test is 300 marks in 90 minutes, which leaves little time per question. Practise English antonyms, synonyms, error spotting, voice and narration until you answer them quickly.
- Prepare Meghalaya GK: districts, autonomous district councils and state geography appeared in the past paper on the police website.
- Keep bonus-mark papers ready. Home Guard volunteers, NCC 'B' or 'C' certificate holders and national-level sportspersons from the state get 5 extra marks, but only if claimed in the application with documents.

How to apply
- Apply online on megpolice.gov.in when the CRB opens applications. In 2024 the form was due to open on 1 April, but a CRB notice moved the opening to 8 April and the closing date to 31 May 2024.
- Register once with a valid mobile number and email. You can apply for several UB posts, paying Rs 150 for each post; all UB posts you apply for share one PET and one written test.
- Choose one recruitment centre (1st to 5th MLP Battalion at Mawiong, Goeragre, Sahbsein, Sohpian or Samanda). Appearing at more than one venue cancels your candidature.
- Download the admit card from the police website before the PMT/PET.
