About Meghalaya Police UBSI

UB Sub-Inspector (UBSI) posts in Meghalaya Police are filled in the same CRB recruitment as constables, but they need a degree and have a longer written test. The 6 March 2024 advertisement offered 76 posts at Level 11 (Rs 37,800 to 86,400). A corrigendum of 7 March 2024 corrected the category split to 12 unreserved, 30 Khasi-Jaintia, 31 Garo and 3 for other tribes and SC, and 10% of the vacancies are reserved for women.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 21–27 years, counted on 1 January 2024.

Age relaxation

  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • ST, OST (other Scheduled Tribes) and SC candidates get 5 years on the upper limit.
  • Candidates who use the age or height relaxation for ST/SC/OST cannot claim an open-category seat.

Qualification

Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university.

Other conditions

  • Height: men 162 cm (open) or 157 cm (ST/SC, including other Scheduled Tribes of Meghalaya); women 157 cm (open) or 152 cm (ST/SC). Weight and chest are not measured.
  • Knock knees, flat foot, squint, poor eyesight, colour blindness, varicose veins or piles disqualify at the medical.

What they ask

The UBSI written test has three papers worth 300 marks, all to be completed in three hours. General English carries half the marks (150) and asks you to write: a précis, an essay and a drafting task, along with grammar at Matriculation standard. Elementary mathematics, reasoning and basic science share just 50 marks, and general knowledge carries 100. As with constable posts, a few questions worth up to 5% of the marks may be set in Khasi and Garo.

How to prepare

  • Spend most of your written-test time on English. It is 150 of 300 marks and includes précis, essay and drafting, so write practice answers by hand instead of only solving grammar MCQs.
  • Train for the PET early. Men need 5 km in 19 minutes or less for the full 100 marks and are out beyond 24 minutes; women need 3 km in 14 minutes for full marks and are out beyond 19.
  • General knowledge is worth 100 marks. Cover Indian polity, history, geography and current affairs, with regular reading of Meghalaya news.
  • Maths, reasoning and science together carry only 50 marks, so keep them to basics and revise rather than spending weeks on advanced problems.

How to apply

  1. Apply online on megpolice.gov.in when the CRB opens applications, paying Rs 150 per post.
  2. UBSI is in the UB group, so one PET and one written test cover all UB posts you apply for.
  3. Choose one recruitment centre (1st to 5th MLP Battalion). Appearing at more than one venue cancels your candidature.
