About Kerala Civil Excise Officer

Civil Excise Officers enforce liquor and narcotics laws for the Kerala Excise and Prohibition Department. Kerala PSC's direct-recruitment round, Category No. 564/2025 (Part I), is open to men only and carries a pay scale of ₹27,900–63,700. Applications closed on 14 January 2026.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 19–31 years, counted on 1 January 2025.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • Other concessions follow para 2 of the Kerala PSC General Conditions, with a ceiling of 50.

Qualification

Pass in Plus Two or an equivalent.

Other conditions

  • Height at least 165 cm and chest 81 cm with 5 cm expansion (SC/ST: 160 cm and 76 cm, same expansion).
  • Endurance test: 2.5 km in 13 minutes.
  • Pass any five of the eight National Physical Efficiency one-star events, for example 100 m in 14 seconds, long jump 457.2 cm, 8 pull-ups and 1500 m in 5 minutes 44 seconds.
  • Distant vision 6/6 and near vision 0.5 Snellen in each eye without glasses. Colour blindness, squint or any morbid eye condition disqualifies.
  • Women and differently abled candidates cannot apply.

What they ask

Twenty of the 100 marks are excise law: the Abkari Act, NDPS, the Distillery and Warehouse Rules, the Foreign Liquor Rules, COTPA and the anti-alcoholism campaign, plus 2 marks on the IT Act. These questions go into definitions and licence types, so general reading is not enough. The rest of the paper follows the common frame of 40 marks general knowledge and 10 marks each for current affairs, arithmetic and reasoning, English and the regional language.

How to prepare

  • Read the Abkari Act and the Foreign Liquor Rules closely. Definitions and licence categories such as FL-1, FL-3 and FL-11 are named in the syllabus.
  • Train for the 2.5 km run in 13 minutes as well as the five PET events you pick.
  • Read the COTPA sections listed in the syllabus; the unit is worth 3 marks.
  • Solve previous Civil Excise Officer papers from the Kerala PSC website to see the style of law questions.

How to apply

  1. Create a One Time Registration profile on keralapsc.gov.in, or log in to the one you already have.
  2. Open the notification and click 'Apply Now' against the category number. Kerala PSC charges no application fee.
  3. When the exam programme comes out, submit your confirmation to write the test from your profile within the window given. Applications without a confirmation are rejected.
  4. Download the admission ticket from your profile. It opens in the last 15 days before the test.

Photo and signature

  • Photo: JPG, 200 pixels high and 150 pixels wide, up to 30 KB, face and shoulders clearly visible on a white or light background. A new One Time Registration profile needs a photo taken within the last six months, with your name and the date printed at the bottom.
  • Signature: JPG, 150 pixels wide and 100 pixels high, up to 30 KB. A blank, unclear or incomplete signature image gets the application rejected.
