About JSSC Kakshpal (Jail Warder)

Kakshpal is the warder post in Jharkhand's jails, under the Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department, at pay level 2. JSSC advertised the Jharkhand Kakshpal Competitive Examination 2025 for regular and backlog vacancies, open to both men and women. Selection starts with a chest check and a one-mile run, followed by an OMR written exam, then height measurement and a medical examination.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–25 years, counted on 1 August 2025.

Age relaxation

• OBC: 2 years
• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• Upper age limit by category: 25 for unreserved and EWS candidates, 27 for EBC (Annexure-1) and BC (Annexure-2) men, 28 for women from the unreserved, EWS, EBC and BC groups, and 30 for SC and ST candidates.
• Home Guards have upper limits of 30 to 35 by category, ex-servicemen 45, and Sahayak Police 35 to 40, as tabled in the brochure.

Qualification

Matric (Class 10) pass from an educational institution recognised by the central or state government, held by the last date of the online application.

Other conditions

• Minimum height: 160 cm for unreserved, EWS, EBC and BC men; 155 cm for SC and ST men; 148 cm for women.
• Minimum chest for men: 81 cm (unreserved, EWS, EBC, BC) and 79 cm (SC, ST); chest is not measured for women.
• Running test: 1 mile (1,600 m) in 6 minutes for men and in 10 minutes for women.

1. Physical measurement (chest) and physical efficiency test: 1-mile run (qualifying)
2. Written exam (OMR, three papers)
3. Height measurement and medical examination by a medical board
4. Merit list on written marks and document verification

What they ask

Paper 1 checks Hindi and English through unseen passages and grammar, with 60 of its 120 questions on Hindi grammar alone. It only needs 30%, but if you miss that, Papers 2 and 3 are not marked. Paper 3 leans heavily on Jharkhand, which takes 50 of its 120 questions. Every question is worth 3 marks, and a wrong answer costs 1 mark.

How to prepare

• Train for the one-mile run first: 6 minutes for men and 10 minutes for women, and you cannot sit the written exam without it.
• Hindi grammar is 60 of the 120 questions in Paper 1, so practise it daily even though the paper is only qualifying.
• Make short notes on Jharkhand geography, history, culture and schemes for the 50 state questions in Paper 3.
