About Jharkhand Police Constable
JSSC recruits district police constables for Jharkhand's Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department through the Jharkhand Constable Competitive Examination. The latest brochure, JCCE-2023, lists the vacancies district by district. The process has a running test, a medical check and a two-paper OMR exam, and marks from the written test decide the merit list.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–25 years, counted on 1 August 2023 for the minimum age; 1 August 2019 for the maximum age.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 2 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Ex-servicemen: 5 years
- Upper age limit by category: 25 for unreserved and EWS candidates, 27 for EBC (Annexure-1) and BC (Annexure-2) men, 28 for women from the unreserved, EWS, EBC and BC groups, and 30 for SC and ST candidates.
- Ex-servicemen get 5 extra years.

Other conditions
- Minimum height: 160 cm for unreserved, EWS, EBC and BC men; 155 cm for SC and ST men; 148 cm for women.
- Minimum chest for men: 81 cm (unreserved, EWS, EBC, BC) and 79 cm (SC, ST); chest is not measured for women.
- Running test: men must cover 10 km in 60 minutes and women 5 km in 30 minutes.
- Reservation needs a Jharkhand local residence certificate in the format the brochure prescribes.

Paper 1: Regional and tribal language
- One language chosen from Hindi, English, Urdu, Santhali, Bangla, Mundari, Ho, Kharia, Kurukh (Oraon), Kurmali, Khortha, Nagpuri, Panchpargania, Odia or Sanskrit
- 100 multiple-choice questions in that language
Paper 2 (matric level)
- Hindi: passage-based questions, grammar, idioms (muhavare), proverbs (lokoktiyan) and sentence correction

What they ask
The written test has two OMR papers of 100 questions each, with 3 marks for a right answer and 1 mark cut for a wrong one. Paper 1 is in the regional or tribal language you choose and needs at least 30%; for merit, your Paper 1 score is turned into 0 to 7 marks by percentage band. Paper 2 sets 50 Hindi questions on passages, grammar, idioms and sentence correction, plus 25 general knowledge and 25 numerical ability questions at matric level.
How to prepare
- Start running practice well before the exam. Men must finish 10 km in 60 minutes and women 5 km in 30 minutes, and the test is qualifying.
- Hindi is half of Paper 2, so practise grammar, muhavare, lokoktiyan and sentence correction every day.
- Do not stop at the 30% pass mark in Paper 1. Each 10% band above it adds one merit mark, up to 7.
