HPSC PGT syllabus
Subject syllabus (one annexure per PGT subject)
- Each subject has its own syllabus annexed to the advertisement, for example economic reforms, trade theory and trade policy in Economics, and unseen passages and formal writing tasks in English
- Only in English: Biology, Chemistry, Home Science, Mathematics and Physics
- In English and Hindi: Commerce, Economics, Fine Arts, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology
- English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Punjabi are set in their own language
What they ask
Both written stages are about your PGT subject at postgraduate depth, following the annexure for that subject. The screening test, when held, is 100 objective questions in 2 hours with a quarter mark cut for each wrong answer, and it only shortlists four times the posts. The subject knowledge test is worth 150 marks over 3 hours and carries 87.5 percent of the final weight, so it decides most of the merit. Science and maths papers are set only in English, most humanities papers are bilingual, and language papers are in that language.
How to prepare
- Download your subject's annexure from the advertisement and use it as your checklist; each PGT subject has a separate syllabus.
- Put most of your effort into the subject knowledge test, which carries 87.5 percent of the final merit.
- If you teach Biology, Chemistry, Home Science, Maths or Physics, practise in English, since those papers are not bilingual.
- Keep your HTET or STET certificate ready before you apply; it is an essential qualification for every PGT post.
