About DSSSB ASO
Grade-II of the Government of NCT of Delhi Subordinate Service (GNCTDSS), also called Assistant Section Officer, is a Group B ministerial post on Pay Level 7. DSSSB advertised 587 posts under post code 804/26 in Advertisement No. 01/2026 (Combined Examinations, 2026). A corrigendum of 26 May 2026 raised the Services Department share from 576 to 606, which makes 617 in all, with 11 more in DPCC and DUSIB. It is a two-tier exam, and Tier II includes a descriptive English paper.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–30 years, counted on 25 March 2026.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The 21 to 30 range is for the Services Department posts. The DPCC and DUSIB posts state only an upper limit of 30 years.
- PwBD candidates get 13 years if they are also OBC and 15 years if also SC or ST.
- Ex-servicemen: period of military service plus 3 years, up to a maximum age of 55.
- Departmental candidates with 3 years' regular service: up to 5 years for a Group B post in the same or an allied cadre.
- DUSIB employees who hold the qualification face no age limit for the DUSIB post.

Other conditions
- OBC reservation and age relaxation need an OBC (Delhi) certificate, or an outside certificate for a caste that the Delhi government has notified as OBC. Other OBC candidates apply as unreserved.

What they ask
Tier I is the standard DSSSB general paper: 200 one-mark questions in two hours, 40 each on general awareness, reasoning, arithmetic, Hindi and English. It only shortlists, though you still have to clear the minimum marks. Tier II is one three-hour session with 200 MCQs, where computer proficiency replaces Hindi, plus a 100-mark descriptive paper in English: an essay or expansion of ideas (50), a letter or application (25) and a precis (25). Your rank depends on the combined Tier II score.
How to prepare
- Start computer basics before the Tier I result. Computer proficiency is a full 40-mark section in Tier II but is absent from Tier I.
- Write in English every week. The descriptive part is 100 of the 300 Tier II marks, and all three tasks are in English.
- Do not drop Hindi for Tier I. It is 40 marks there, even though Tier II has no Hindi section.
- Take daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for arithmetic and reasoning, which appear in both tiers.

How to apply
- Register once on dsssbonline.nic.in; one registration serves every DSSSB exam.
- Log in, pick the post code and fill in the online form before the closing date.
- Pay the fee through SBI e-pay if your category is not exempt.
- Print the submitted form and keep checking dsssb.delhi.gov.in for the exam date and notices.
