About CRPF Tradesman

CRPF recruits constables for trade and technical work, such as driving, cooking, vehicle repair, tailoring and band duty, through its own recruitment drive. The advertisement dated 8 April 2026 lists 9,175 Technical and Tradesmen vacancies (9,096 for men and 79 for women), filled state by state, and 20 Pioneer Wing posts for masons and electricians filled on an all-India basis. The post is at Pay Level 3 (Rs 21,700 to 69,100). Selection runs through a physical test, a computer-based test, a trade test and a medical.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–23 years, counted on 1 August 2026.

Age relaxation

• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• Constable (Driver) has a different band: 21 to 27 years on 1 August 2026.
• Ex-servicemen: 3 years after deducting military service from actual age.
• Children and dependants of those killed in the 1984 riots: 5 years (unreserved), 8 years (OBC) and 10 years (SC/ST).
• The corrigendum of 17 April 2026 moved the age and qualification date from 1 January 2026 to 1 August 2026.

Qualification

Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent from a recognised board, held on 1 August 2026. Drivers also need a Heavy Transport Vehicle driving licence and must pass a driving test at recruitment. Motor Mechanic Vehicle needs a two-year ITI certificate in Mechanic Motor Vehicle with one year of practical experience, or a three-year national or state apprenticeship in that trade with one year of experience. Other tradesmen must be skilled in and working at their trade. Pioneer (Mason, Electrician) needs one year of experience in the trade, with preference for an ITI trade certificate.

Other conditions

• Technical and Tradesmen vacancies are split by State/UT. You must show a domicile or permanent residence certificate of the State/UT you chose in the form, and you cannot change it later. Pioneer posts are open to all states.
• The posts are not identified as suitable for persons with disabilities, so PwBD candidates need not apply.
• Physical standards: height 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women, with lower limits for ST, hill-region and North-East candidates. Men need a chest of 80 cm unexpanded with 5 cm expansion.
• Race: drivers, mechanics, gardeners, painters, carpenters, band posts, cobblers and tailors run 5 km in 24 minutes (men) or 1.6 km in 8.30 minutes (women). Cooks, water carriers, barbers, washermen and safai karamcharis run 1.6 km in 10 minutes (men) or 12 minutes (women). Masons and electricians run 1.6 km in 9 minutes.
• Ex-servicemen are exempt from the race but still go through height, chest and weight measurement.
• Fee is Rs 100 per post for male General, EWS and OBC candidates. SC, ST, women and ex-servicemen are exempt. A service charge is also payable online by every candidate.

4. Trade or skill test: qualifying, 20 out of 50 marks needed

What they ask

The CBT has 100 matriculation-level questions in 2 hours, 25 each from reasoning, general awareness, elementary maths and English or Hindi. The reasoning part is mostly non-verbal, with figure series, classification and spatial questions. To reach the trade test you need at least 30% in the CBT as unreserved, 25% as EWS or OBC, and 20% in other categories. Pioneer candidates need 35% (unreserved) or 33% (reserved). Final selection goes by normalised CBT marks, state by state and category by category, so the trade test and physical stages only have to be cleared.

How to prepare

• Train for the race first. It is the first stage and there is no appeal against it, so practise the distance and time set for your own trade.
• Put most of your study time into the CBT, because merit is decided by CBT marks alone. The trade test is pass or fail at 20 out of 50.
• Practise figure-based reasoning such as non-verbal series, figure classification and spatial orientation, since the notification says most reasoning questions are of this type.
• Revise Class 10 arithmetic (percentages, ratio, averages, interest, time and work) and work without a calculator, as calculators are not allowed.
• Use daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for general awareness and elementary maths.

How to apply

1. Apply online on rect.crpf.gov.in. No other mode is accepted.
2. Choose your State/UT to match your domicile certificate. It cannot be changed at document verification.
3. Upload your photo and signature, then pay the fee online if you are not exempt.
4. Download admit cards for each stage from the CRPF website. They are not sent by post.

• SC, ST, OBC or EWS certificate in the format given in the advertisement, if claimed
• Driving licence (drivers) or trade certificates and experience proof, as your trade requires
• Original photo identity proof and two colour printouts of the admit card

Photo and signature

• Photo: Recent colour photo, about 35 mm wide and 45 mm high, JPG/JPEG, 50 to 100 KB. The date it was taken must be printed on it. No cap or spectacles, and both ears should be visible.
• Signature: Signed by you only, JPG/JPEG/PNG, 50 to 100 KB. Scan just the signature area.
