About Bihar Police Driver Constable

CSBC recruits driver constables for the Bihar Police driver cadre. Advertisement 02/2025 was issued for 4,361 posts in pay level 3. Along with the usual written and physical tests, candidates must pass a driving skill test on a marked track.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 20–25 years, counted on 1 August 2025 for minimum age; 1 August 2020 for maximum age.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 2 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • Unreserved: 20 to 25 years.
  • BC and EBC men: upper limit 27; BC and EBC women: upper limit 28.
  • SC, ST and transgender candidates: upper limit 30.
  • Candidates who worked as contract drivers in Bihar Police may get relaxation equal to their contract period.

Qualification

Intermediate (10+2) pass or equivalent, plus a light (LMV) or heavy (HMV) motor vehicle driving licence issued at least one year before the advertisement date (on or before 17 July 2024).

Other conditions

  • Women need a minimum weight of 48 kg; height and chest standards are listed in the advertisement.
  • Transgender candidates follow the physical standards for women.

What they ask

The written test has 100 one-mark questions in two hours. About 60% of them are general knowledge and current affairs, and the rest cover motor vehicle law, vehicle parts, maintenance and common faults. You need 40% (unreserved), 36.5% (BC), 34% (EBC) or 32% (SC, ST and women) to pass. The driving test then scores how quickly you reverse a jeep and a car through a marked track and how few gear changes you use.

How to prepare

  • Check your licence date first: it must be issued on or before 17 July 2024, or you are not eligible.
  • Practise reversing into and out of a narrow box track; touching a pole or the track edge disqualifies you in the driving test.
  • Revise the Motor Vehicles Act, road signs and basic vehicle maintenance for the 40% technical part of the written test.
  • If you hold an HMV licence, prepare the bus or truck figure-of-eight task too; those 20 marks are only open to HMV holders.
