About WB SLST
The State Level Selection Test (SLST) is how WBSSC selects Assistant Teachers for government-aided and sponsored secondary and higher secondary schools. The 2nd SLST (AT) 2025 was a fresh selection ordered after the Supreme Court judgment of 3 April 2025 in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024, run under the 2025 recruitment rules. Selection combines a 60-mark OMR test with academic marks, teaching experience, an interview and a lecture demonstration.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–40 years, counted on 1 January 2025.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 8 years
- Further relaxation for candidates covered by the Supreme Court order of 3 April 2025
Qualification
Classes IX-X: graduation or post-graduation with at least 50% in either, plus B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution, or a 4-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. Classes XI-XII: post-graduation with at least 50% plus B.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. Reserved candidates get 5% relaxation in marks.
Other conditions
- For Classes IX-X your graduation must have included the subject with at least 300 full marks, or you need a PG in that subject; for XI-XII you need a PG in the subject.
- You must have passed the school's medium language (Bengali, English, Hindi, Nepali, Oriya, Santhali, Telugu or Urdu) as a first, second or third language.
- SC, ST, OBC and PH certificates must be issued by West Bengal authorities; candidates from other states compete as general.

What they ask
The written test is a single 60-question subject paper in 90 minutes, one mark per question and no negative marking, so attempt every question. It carries 60 of the 100 marks, and the rest comes from your degree percentage, teaching experience, interview and lecture demonstration. The Classes IX-X papers follow graduation-level subject syllabi, while XI-XII papers follow post-graduate level. Questions are in English and Bengali, except language papers, and the Sanskrit paper is set in Bengali.
How to prepare
- Download the subject-wise syllabus from the WBSSC 2nd SLST syllabus page and map it against your honours or PG notes.
- Attempt all 60 questions, since there is no negative marking.
- Prepare a short class lesson in your subject and rehearse it; the lecture demonstration and interview together carry 20 marks.
- Check your academic score before applying: 60% and above in the relevant degree earns the full 10 marks, 50% to 60% earns 8.
