About WB Primary TET
WBBPE conducts the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for Classes I to V and runs recruitment of Assistant Teachers in primary schools. Passing the TET only makes you eligible; you then apply when the Board issues a recruitment notification. The September 2025 notification was for 13,421 posts, with selection on a 50-mark evaluation.

Age limit
General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2025.
Age relaxation
- Upper age limit is relaxable for SC, ST, OBC (A and B), PwD, Exempted Category, ex-servicemen and para teachers; the notification does not list the years
Qualification
Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% plus a 2-year D.El.Ed, or at least 45% plus a 2-year D.El.Ed, or 50% plus a 4-year B.El.Ed, or 50% plus a 2-year D.Ed (Special Education), or graduation plus a 2-year D.El.Ed. Other conditions
- You must be a citizen of India.
- You must have studied and passed the medium language as a first or second language at Higher Secondary level; for Santhali medium, proficiency in Santhali (Ol Chiki script) is enough.
- TET-2023 required 60% of 150 marks to qualify (55% for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, differently abled, exempted, ex-servicemen and die-in-harness categories).

Part A: Child Development and Pedagogy

- Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky; theories of personality and intelligence

- Learning theories, constructivism and the 5E model, motivation
- Teaching methods, Bloom's taxonomy, microteaching

- First language by medium of instruction; English is Language II for everyone

What they ask
The TET has 150 one-mark MCQs in 150 minutes, split into five parts of 30: child development and pedagogy, Language I, English, mathematics and environmental studies. There is no negative marking, and you qualify with 60% (90 marks), or 55% in the reserved categories. Language I follows the medium you want to teach in, and each subject part mixes content questions with teaching-method questions. In the recruitment round, only 10 of the 50 marks come from the viva-voce and aptitude test; the rest comes from your board results, training, TET and extra-curricular record.
How to prepare
- Download the part-wise model questions from the WBBPE notice board (issued for TET-2023) and practise them under timed conditions.
- Aim well above 90 out of 150 and attempt all 150 questions, since there is no negative marking; the TET itself adds up to 5 marks in the recruitment evaluation.
- Keep your Madhyamik, HS and D.El.Ed marksheets and extra-curricular certificates in order, since they make up 35 of the 50 recruitment marks.
- Choose the first-language medium you studied at HS level, because the medium-of-instruction rule ties your posting to it.

No. WBBPE's TET-2023 notice states that qualifying gives no right to appointment; it only makes you eligible to apply when posts are notified.
