About UKMSSB Nursing Officer
The Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board recruits Nursing Officers for the state's Medical Health and Family Welfare Department. The Nursing Officer Exam 2026 advertisement, dated 3 June 2026, has 196 posts split by gender and by diploma or degree. Diploma and degree holders take different nursing papers but share the same general paper.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–42 years, counted on 1 July 2025.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The SC, ST, OBC and disability relaxation is for Uttarakhand candidates.
- Dependants of Uttarakhand freedom fighters get five years.
- Ex-servicemen may deduct their army service from their age; the result must not exceed the upper limit by more than three years.
Qualification
B.Sc (Hons) Nursing, B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, or a diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (or psychiatric nursing) from an institution recognised by the Indian Nursing Council, plus working knowledge of Hindi.
Other conditions
- Permanent registration with the Uttarakhand Nursing and Midwives Council is required by the last date of application. A registration receipt is not accepted.
- As a Group C recruitment outside UKPSC, you need an Uttarakhand link such as a state domicile certificate or Class 10 and 12 passed from schools in Uttarakhand.

Paper 1 for diploma holders (100 questions)
- Nursing foundation, medical-surgical nursing and psychology
- Nutrition and dietetics
- Maternal health, child health, community health and mental health nursing
Paper 1 for degree holders (100 questions)
- Nursing foundation, nursing education and nursing administration
- Nursing research and statistics, medical-surgical nursing, nutrition and dietetics
- Mental health, child health, community health nursing, and obstetrics and gynaecology
Paper 2 (100 marks)
- General Hindi: spelling, grammar and vocabulary (20 marks)
- General knowledge: Uttarakhand and India, sports, books and authors, and general science (40 marks)
- General studies: reasoning, social intelligence and numerical ability (40 marks)
What they ask
Both papers are taken in one 3-hour sitting worth 200 marks, and every wrong answer costs a quarter mark. Half the marks come from nursing subjects matched to your qualification, so diploma holders see more nutrition and child health questions while degree holders get nursing education, administration and research. The other half tests Hindi, general knowledge with Uttarakhand topics, and reasoning. You need 45% (unreserved, OBC, EWS) or 35% (SC, ST) to qualify.
How to prepare
- Revise by the question weights for your stream. For diploma holders, medical-surgical, nutrition, child health and community health each carry 15 questions.
- Do not leave Paper 2 to the end. Reasoning and general knowledge are 80 of your 200 marks.
- Renew or complete your Uttarakhand Nursing Council registration before you apply, since a pending registration is not accepted.
