About Sikkim Police SI

SPSC recruits Sub-Inspectors for Sikkim Police under exam rules notified by the Director General of Police. The 2025 round, Advertisement No. 14/SPSC/EXAM/2025, was for 39 posts at Level 12 of the pay matrix, open to both men and women. Selection runs in three stages: a screening prelims, a physical efficiency test and a written main exam.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–34 years, counted on 1 June 2025.

Age relaxation

  • SPSC's notice of 12 June 2025 raised the upper limit for open-market candidates from 25 to 34, following Notification No. 66/GEN/DOP of 2 June 2025.
  • Sikkim Police personnel in the regular establishment can apply up to 45 years of age, counted on the first day of the month after the advertisement.

Qualification

A degree from a recognised university.

Other conditions

  • You need a Sikkim Subject Certificate or a Certificate of Identification issued by the competent authority, and a valid local employment card from the Government of Sikkim.
  • You must know a state language (Nepali, Sikkimese Bhutia, Lepcha or Limboo) and be familiar with Sikkim's customs and usages.
  • Men need a height of at least 5 ft 3 in, a 32-inch chest with 2 inches of expansion and a weight of at least 50 kg. Women need at least 5 ft and 45 kg.
  • Ten per cent of direct recruitment posts are kept for in-service Sikkim Police candidates aged up to 45 with at least five years of unblemished service.
  • Posts meant for women (33 per cent) that cannot be filled go to men of the same reserved category.
  • Scribes are not allowed. You must write your own answers.

Physical Efficiency Test standards (level A earns 10 marks, B 8, C 6; below C disqualifies)

  • 1500 m race: level A under 5.5 minutes for men and 6.5 minutes for women; slower than 8.0 or 9.5 minutes fails
  • High jump: level A above 1.40 m for men and 1.15 m for women; below 1.10 m or 0.85 m fails
  • Long jump: level A above 4.50 m for men and 3.40 m for women; below 3.60 m or 2.60 m fails
  • Shot put (16 lb for men, 12 lb for women): level A above 6.75 m or 4.75 m; below 4.75 m or 3.75 m fails

What they ask

Both prelims papers are two-hour objective tests of 150 marks each, with the science, English and maths pitched at Class 10 level. The prelims only screens: about 12 to 15 candidates per vacancy in each category go on to the physical test, and prelims marks are dropped after that. The PET has five events graded A, B or C for 10, 8 or 6 marks, and missing level C in any one of them ends your candidature. The main exam is set at graduation level and answered in English only, and General Studies I starts with Sikkim's history, geography, culture and tourism before moving to ethics, polity and physical education.

How to prepare

  • Train for all five PET events, not only the runs. Level C in a jump or throw still earns 6 marks, but falling short in even one event disqualifies you.
  • Start mains preparation alongside the prelims. Prelims marks do not count, while the PET and main exam together make up the 550 marks that decide your rank.
  • Cover the Sikkim topics early. State history, geography, heritage, tourism and current affairs head the General Studies I syllabus.
  • Practise précis and report writing to a 90-minute limit, because the English paper is only an hour and a half long.

How to apply

  1. Complete the one-time registration on SPSC's upgraded recruitment portal (RPA 3.0) at spscrecruitment.sikkim.gov.in. If you were registered on the old portal, use the same email ID so your earlier records link up.
  2. Apply online against the advertisement before the last date. SPSC rejects applications sent any other way.
  3. Pay the ₹200 application fee online by net banking or a debit or credit card. It is not refunded.
  4. Download the e-admit card after SPSC posts a notice for it, and bring it to the centre with a photo ID such as Aadhaar, a voter card or a driving licence.
