About Sikkim Forest Guard

SPSC holds the Forest Guard exam for the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim. The latest round, Advertisement No. 12/SPSC/EXAM/2025, was for 53 posts at Level 6 of the pay matrix. It is open to Class 10 pass candidates: the written test is set at Class 10 level and is followed by a physical endurance test that includes a long timed walk.

Class 10 pass from a recognised board.

Other conditions

  • You need a Sikkim Subject Certificate or a Certificate of Identification issued by the competent authority, and a valid local employment card from the Government of Sikkim.
  • You must know one of the state languages and be familiar with Sikkim's customs and usages.
  • Men need a height of 155 cm, a chest girth of 84 cm and a chest expansion figure of 90 cm, as the scheme lists them. Women need a height of 152.4 cm.
  • The walking test is 25 km within four hours for men and 16 km within four hours for women.

What they ask

The Forest Guard test is a single two-hour objective paper worth 100 marks, answered on an OMR sheet. It has four equal blocks of 25 marks: general studies, general science, current events, and reasoning with general maths. Everything is pitched at Class 10 level, and the general studies block asks about Sikkim's history, geography, economy and polity as well as India's. The physical test that follows carries no marks, but you have to pass it to stay on the merit list.

How to prepare

  • Give each 25-mark block equal time. None of the four is small enough to skip.
  • Read Sikkim's history, geography and polity alongside India's from Class 10 level material, since the general studies block names both.
  • Start walking practice well before the exam. Men must cover 25 km and women 16 km within four hours to clear the PET.
  • Follow local news as well as national and international news. The current events block is worth a quarter of the paper.
  • Revise Class 10 maths and reasoning with daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app.

How to apply

  1. Complete the one-time registration on SPSC's upgraded recruitment portal (RPA 3.0) at spscrecruitment.sikkim.gov.in. If you were registered on the old portal, use the same email ID so your earlier records link up.
  2. Apply online against the advertisement before the last date. SPSC rejects applications sent any other way.
  3. Pay the ₹200 application fee online by net banking or a debit or credit card. It is not refunded.
  4. Download the e-admit card after SPSC posts a notice for it, and bring it to the centre with a photo ID such as Aadhaar, a voter card or a driving licence.
