About NSSB CSRE
The Combined Staff Recruitment Examination (CSRE) is the Nagaland Staff Selection Board's exam for Group C clerical and allied posts in state departments. Only Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland can apply. The 2026 advertisement (No. NSSB-3/CSRE 2026, 16 September 2026) has 11 posts: 4 LDA-cum-Computer Assistant posts at directorate level (Pay Level 5), 4 at district level (Level 4) and 3 Assistant Sub-Inspector posts in the Nagaland Lokayukta (Level 6).
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–32 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- ST: 5 years
- ST candidates get 5 more years on the upper limit.
- Serving government employees get relaxation equal to their years of service, up to 5 years, under the Government of Nagaland office memorandum of 15 October 2024.
Qualification
A degree in any discipline from a recognised university. LDA-cum-Computer Assistant posts also need a certificate course in computer application.
Other conditions
- All vacancies are reserved for Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland, with further reservation for backward tribes and persons with benchmark disabilities.
- Assistant Sub-Inspector is a uniformed post: men need a height of 162 cm and chest of 79 cm (84 cm expanded); women need 152 cm and chest of 74 cm (79 cm expanded), with weight matched to height.
- Colour blindness, knock knees, flat feet, squint, hearing loss or distance vision below 6/6 and 6/9 without correction disqualify uniformed-post candidates.

What they ask
Tier I is one objective General Paper of 200 questions for 200 marks in three hours, and each wrong answer costs one third of the question's marks. General knowledge has the most questions (75) and includes Naga history and culture along with Indian history, polity, geography, economy and science. Basic computer knowledge is a large block of 40 questions on operating systems, Word, spreadsheets, presentations and the internet. The rest is English grammar (30), passage comprehension (25), and arithmetic with reasoning (30) at Class 12 level.
How to prepare
- Basic computer knowledge is 40 of the 200 marks, and LDA candidates also face a 50-mark computer proficiency test, so practise word processing, spreadsheets and presentations on an actual computer.
- Read Naga history and culture alongside Indian GK. The NSSB syllabus names it as part of the general knowledge section.
- A wrong answer costs a third of a mark, so on the English and GK sections skip questions where you are only guessing.
- Assistant Sub-Inspector applicants should start running early: men need 3 km in 13 minutes, a 12-foot long jump and 5 pull-ups; women need 1.5 km in 8 minutes, an 8-foot long jump and 3 pull-ups.

How to apply
- Complete one-time registration (OTR) on the NSSB recruitment portal; it is compulsory.
- Apply online through nssb.nagaland.gov.in and pick two districts as your exam centre choices.
- Pay the Rs 300 exam fee; PwBD candidates are exempt.
- Government employees upload a No Objection Certificate signed by the Head of Department and bring the hard copy to document verification.
Documents checklist
- HSLC/matriculation admit card (the only accepted age proof)
- Indigenous Inhabitant, ST and BT certificates in the new government format, signed by an officer not below Additional Deputy Commissioner
- Mark sheets and pass certificates from matriculation onwards
