About N-TET
N-TET is Nagaland's teacher eligibility test, held by SCERT Nagaland as the state's academic authority. It applies to both government and private schools in the state. Paper I is for teaching Classes I to V and Paper II for Classes VI to VIII. The pass certificate is valid for life and makes you eligible for teacher recruitment, but it does not give you a job by itself.

Qualification
Paper I: HSSLC/Class 12 or higher with at least 45% marks, plus D.Ed., D.El.Ed., B.El.Ed. or B.Ed. Paper II: graduation or higher with at least 45% marks, plus B.Ed., D.Ed., D.El.Ed. or B.El.Ed. Final-year D.El.Ed., B.El.Ed. and B.Ed. students can apply with their final-year admit card.
Other conditions
- The eligibility section of the 2026 guidelines lists only academic and professional qualifications.
- Government in-service teachers with PSTE, CPTE or D.Ed. can also apply.
- Under a Supreme Court order cited in the guidelines, government teachers recruited before the RTE Act with more than five years of service left must pass N-TET by 31 August 2028.

Language II (Nagaland Heritage Studies)
- One language from a list of 20, including Ao, Tenyidie, Sumi, Lotha, Konyak, Chang, Phom and Hindi

Mathematics and EVS (Paper I)
- Numbers, place value, operations, factors and multiples, basic geometry and patterns

Mathematics, Science and Social Science (Paper II)
- Maths: HCF and LCM, integers, fractions, decimals, algebra, averages, percentage, interest, profit and loss, geometry and mensuration

- Social science: aims under NCF 2005 and NEP 2020, approaches, teaching methods, sources and evidence, lesson planning
What they ask
Both papers have 150 one-mark multiple-choice questions in two and a half hours, with no negative marking. Child development and pedagogy, English and Language II (Nagaland Heritage Studies) take 30 questions each in both papers. Paper I adds 30 each on maths and environmental studies, while Paper II has 60 questions on either maths and science or social science. The syllabus leans on teaching method as much as content, and SCERT points you to the state syllabus for the school classes and the D.El.Ed. and B.Ed. syllabus for method.
How to prepare
- Pick your Language II early and study that language's NHS textbooks: Classes I to V for Paper I and Classes VI to VIII for Paper II.
- Child development and pedagogy is 30 marks in both papers. Learn Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson and Kohlberg well enough to apply them to classroom situations.
- Answer every question, since there is no negative marking.
- Revise your D.El.Ed. or B.Ed. notes on aims, lesson planning and assessment along with the school textbooks, because the subject sections test teaching method too.
- Practise child development and English grammar questions topic by topic with a daily quiz on the free Improvam app.
Practise N-TET syllabus topics a few minutes a day with short quizzes in the Improvam app.
How to apply
- Go to the SCERT Nagaland website (scert.nagaland.gov.in) and open N-TET, then Exam registration 2026.
- Register with your email and phone number, confirm with the OTP and log in with the password sent to your email.
- Fill the form, upload documents and choose Paper I, Paper II or both.
- Pay the fee: Rs 700 for one paper or Rs 1,400 for both. Fees are not refunded.
