About NPSC CESE
The Common Educational Services Examination is NPSC's recruitment for teaching posts in Nagaland's government colleges, teacher education colleges and schools. The revised 2026 advertisement of 12 May 2026 listed 73 items, and an addendum of 18 May added more Assistant Professor posts, including a new item 74 for Environmental Science. Assistant Professor posts in the Higher Education Department make up most items, with a large block of Post Graduate Teacher posts in School Education and a few Lecturer, Research Associate and Graduate Teacher posts.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–32 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- SC and ST candidates get 5 more years and persons with disabilities get 10.
- Serving government employees get relaxation equal to their years of service, up to 5 years.
- For most Assistant Professor items, candidates with a Ph.D. in the relevant field get 5 more years.

Other conditions
- Many items in the 2026 advertisement were reserved for Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland or a named backward tribe; check the reservation for each item.
- NET/SLET/SET is not needed in subjects where no such test is held.
- The HSLC or matriculation admit card is the only accepted proof of age.

What they ask
Paper I is common to all these posts. Half of it is written English: a 40-mark essay and 20 marks each for precis, amplification and grammar. The other half is general knowledge spread evenly over Indian history, polity, science and technology, economy and commerce, and geography with current affairs. The optional paper is in the subject you will teach and splits into 100 descriptive marks and 100 objective marks. Assistant Professor posts in Colleges of Teacher Education follow a separate scheme: a compulsory objective Paper I and a descriptive paper in your area of specialisation.
How to prepare
- Practise a timed essay, a precis and an amplification every week. Together they carry 80 of the 100 English marks.
- The five GK areas carry 20 marks each, so do not drop economy and commerce or science just because your subject is in the humanities.
- Prepare your optional subject twice over: long answers for the descriptive half and quick recall of facts and definitions for the objective half.
- Keep your NET/SLET/SET or Ph.D. certificate, mark sheets from matriculation onwards and the HSLC admit card ready, because NPSC asks for them only when it calls candidates.

How to apply
- Complete one-time registration on npsc.nagaland.gov.in; it is free, and candidates who already have an OTR can apply directly.
- Pay the Rs 300 exam fee, the Rs 25 convenience fee and the payment gateway charges.
- Government employees submit a No Objection Certificate signed by the Head of Department with the online form.

Yes, unless you hold a Ph.D. awarded under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009. NET/SLET/SET is also not required in subjects where no such test is conducted.
