About Manipur Judicial Service (MJS Grade-III)
The High Court of Manipur fills Manipur Judicial Service Grade-III posts by direct recruitment under the Manipur Judicial Service Rules, 2005. The advertisement dated 4 June 2026 lists 12 posts (6 UR, 3 ST, 1 SC, 2 OBC (M)) in the J-1 pay scale of Rs 77,840 to 1,36,520, and says the number may increase. After the Supreme Court's judgment of 21 August 2026 in W.P. (C) No. 1110/2025, a notice dated 11 September 2026 dropped the three-year practice rule for this recruitment and moved the last date to 9 October 2026, 4:00 pm.

Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Upper age limit is 40 for SC and ST, 38 for OBC and 35 for everyone else.

What they ask
The MJS Grade-III prelims has two objective papers of 100 marks and 2 hours each: one on English, general awareness, current affairs and aptitude, and one on law. The law syllabus covers the Constitution, CPC, Transfer of Property Act, Contract Act and Law of Torts along with both the old criminal codes (IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act) and the new BNS, BNSS and BSA. The mains has four 3-hour papers of 100 marks: English with essay and precis, general knowledge with an aptitude test, and two law papers split into civil and criminal subjects. The 70-mark viva also checks how well you know Manipuri.
How to prepare
- Study the old and new criminal laws side by side. The syllabus lists IPC, CrPC and the Evidence Act as well as BNS, BNSS and BSA, so keep a section-wise comparison table.
- Aim well above the prelims cut-off. You need 50% (45% for SC/ST) just to qualify, and only 10 candidates per post move to the mains.
- Write essays and precis to time. The mains English paper is a full 100-mark, 3-hour paper and counts in the select list.
- Brush up your spoken and written Manipuri before the viva, where it is tested and you need at least 40% of 70 marks.

- Use the 'Apply here for the Post of MJS Grade-III' link on www.hcmimphal.nic.in and register with your own email ID.
- Log in with the registration number and password, click Apply Now and fill in the form.
- Upload your photo, signature, left thumb impression, LL.B. certificate, Class X certificate and category certificate.
- Pay the fee through State Bank Collect: Rs 1,500 for UR/OBC and Rs 750 for ST/SC.
