About KTET
K-TET is Kerala's eligibility test for school teachers, conducted by Pareeksha Bhavan. It is a qualifying test, not a recruitment: you take the category that matches the level you want to teach, from lower primary to high school, with a fourth category for language, specialist and physical education teachers. The September 2026 notification lists online applications from 23 September to 3 October 2026 and tests on 14 and 15 November 2026.

Category I
- Child development and pedagogy: learning theories of Piaget, Vygotsky and others, inclusive education, assessment
- Language I and Language II: reading comprehension and language pedagogy

- Child development and pedagogy (30 questions)
- Language I and Language II
- Either science and mathematics (60 questions) or social science (60 questions)
Category III
- Adolescent psychology, theories of learning and teaching aptitude

- Subject-specific area, for example physical science (80 questions)
What they ask
Category I has five sections of 30 questions each, one mark per question, in two and a half hours. The SCERT syllabus mixes pedagogy into the subject sections too: in the English section, half the questions test comprehension and half test how language is taught. Category II replaces environmental science and mathematics with a 60-question block of either science and maths or social science, and Category III has an 80-question subject area.
How to prepare
- Download the syllabus for your category from ktet.kerala.gov.in and note that pedagogy runs through every section, not only child development.
- Learn the named theorists in child development (Piaget, Kohlberg, Vygotsky, Bruner, Gardner) with one classroom example each.
- Solve the model question papers and past answer keys published on the K-TET site.
- Pick your Category II option (science and maths or social science) based on the subject you will teach.
