About Delhi Police HC AWO/TPO

Head Constable (AWO/TPO) posts handle wireless and communication work in Delhi Police, in Group C at Pay Level 4. SSC runs the computer based exam, and Delhi Police conducts the physical, trade and computer tests. The 2025 notice listed 370 vacancies for men and 182 for women; SSC revised these in February 2026 to 297 for men and 146 for women, including departmental quotas.

Age limit

General category: 18–27 years, counted on 1 July 2025.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • Ex-servicemen get 3 years after deducting their military service from their actual age.

Qualification

Class 12 pass with Science and Mathematics from a recognised board, or a National Trade Certificate in the Mechanic-cum-Operator Electronic Communication System trade. You also need to clear an English word processing test of 1,000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

General Science

  • Physics: mechanics, Newton's laws, gravity, pressure, units
  • Physics: sound, heat and temperature, thermodynamics
  • Physics: electronics, magnetism, Ohm's law, fibre optics, modes of communication
  • Chemistry: everyday chemicals, catalysts, acids, physical and chemical change
  • Chemistry: atomic number, elements and symbols, electrochemistry

Mathematics

  • Number system, ratio, percentage, averages
  • Simple and compound interest, profit, loss and discount
  • Time, distance and work
  • Algebra: equations, surds, indices, graphs
  • Geometry, mensuration and trigonometry
  • Data interpretation, sequences and series, permutation and combination

Reasoning

  • Non-verbal reasoning, analogy
  • Alphanumeric and number series, coding and decoding
  • Blood relations, syllogisms, directions and ranking

What they ask

The paper is set at Class 12 level. It has 100 one-mark questions in 90 minutes with 0.25 mark cut for wrong answers. General Science has 25 questions and leans on physics topics linked to communication work, such as electronics, magnetism, Ohm's law and fibre optics, along with basic chemistry. Mathematics includes permutation and combination, sequences and series and data interpretation, and reasoning includes seating arrangement, inequalities and data sufficiency.

How to prepare

  • Revise Class 11 and 12 physics on electricity, magnetism and electronics, which the General Science syllabus names directly.
  • Cover the higher maths topics in the syllabus, such as permutation and combination and sequences and series, not just arithmetic.
  • Practise English typing on a computer until you can reach 1,000 key depressions in 15 minutes for the Delhi Police word processing test.
