About RPF SI
RPF SI recruitment fills Sub-Inspector (Executive) posts in the Railway Protection Force and the Railway Protection Special Force at pay level 6. The Railway Recruitment Boards conduct it for graduates. The stages are the same as for RPF Constable, a graduation-level CBT followed by PET, PMT, document verification and a medical, with slightly different running and jumping standards.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 20–28 years, counted on 1 July 2024.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- The normal limit is 20 to 25. CEN RPF 01/2024 allowed up to 28 as a one-time 3-year relaxation because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried get 2 years (UR and EWS), 5 years (OBC-NCL) or 7 years (SC and ST).
- Central Government employees (other than ex-servicemen) with at least 3 years of regular service get 5 years (UR and EWS), 8 years (OBC-NCL) or 10 years (SC and ST).
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- 15% of vacancies are reserved for women and 10% for ex-servicemen.
- The post is not suitable for PwBD candidates.
- Ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET but must pass the PMT.

General Intelligence and Reasoning (35 marks)
- Analogies, similarities and differences
- Spatial visualisation and orientation, visual memory

- Verbal and figure classification, number series, non-verbal series
- Coding-decoding, statement-conclusion, syllogistic reasoning
General Awareness (50 marks)
- Current events and everyday observation
- Indian history, art and culture
- Geography, economics, general polity and the Indian Constitution

What they ask
The SI paper uses the same three subjects and marks split as the constable paper (35 arithmetic, 35 reasoning, 50 GA, 120 questions in 90 minutes), but the notice sets it at graduation level. You need 35% (UR, EWS and OBC-NCL) or 30% (SC and ST) to qualify, and CBT marks decide the merit list after the physical tests.
How to prepare
- Study GA at degree level: the syllabus names Indian history, art and culture, geography, economics, polity and the Constitution, and it is worth 50 marks.
- Work on speed in arithmetic, where tables and graphs, interest and mensuration questions can eat time in a 90-minute paper.
- Train for the PET alongside study. Men need 1600 metres in 6 minutes 30 seconds, a 12 ft long jump and a 3 ft 9 in high jump; women need 800 metres in 4 minutes.
