About RRB Technician
RRB Technician recruitment fills Technician Grade I Signal at pay level 5 and many trade posts of Technician Grade III at pay level 2. Grade III is for ITI or apprenticeship holders, while Grade I Signal needs a B.Sc. or engineering diploma in the listed streams. Each pay level has its own CBT, and selection ends with document verification and a medical.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–33 years, counted on 1 July 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The upper age limit is 33 for Technician Grade I Signal and 30 for Technician Grade III.
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies get no age relaxation.
- PwBD candidates get 10 years (UR and EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) or 15 years (SC and ST), only for posts marked suitable for their disability.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Serving railway Group C and erstwhile Group D staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service can apply up to 40 (UR and EWS), 43 (OBC-NCL) or 45 (SC and ST).
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried can apply up to 35 (UR and EWS), 38 (OBC-NCL) or 40 (SC and ST).
- Course Completed Act Apprentices applying for Grade III get relaxation equal to their apprenticeship (up to 3 years); those who began apprenticeship before 25 can apply up to 35 (UR and EWS), 38 (OBC-NCL) or 40 (SC and ST).
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- Open to Indian citizens, and to citizens of Nepal, subjects of Bhutan and a few other groups named in the notice, who need a Government of India eligibility certificate.
- You may apply to only one RRB for each pay level. Two applications for the same pay level get both rejected.
- PwBD suitability differs by post; check Annexure A before choosing posts.

Both levels: General Intelligence and Reasoning
- Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding-decoding

What they ask
The two CBTs look quite different. The Grade III paper is weighted towards General Science, with 40 of 100 questions at Class 10 level, plus 25 each of maths and reasoning. The Grade I Signal paper gives 35 questions to basic science and engineering, including electricity, magnetism and electronics, and 20 each to computers and a maths section that adds sets, statistics, probability and coordinate geometry. Both have 100 questions in 90 minutes, and the minimum marks are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC and 25% for ST.
How to prepare
- For Grade III, make Class 10 physics, chemistry and biology your main subject. It is 40% of the paper.
- For Grade I Signal, revise electricity, magnetism, electronics and measuring instruments, which fill the 35-question Basic Science and Engineering section.
- Grade I Signal aspirants should add computer basics (networking, operating systems, MS Office, internet) because that section alone carries 20 marks.
- Only candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for document verification, so every mark matters; skip guesses that cost a third of a mark.
