About RRB Group D
RRB Group D fills entry-level posts in pay level 1 of the 7th CPC, and the notice calls it recruitment for Level 1 posts. The jobs include Pointsman B, Track Maintainer Grade IV and assistant posts in the engineering, electrical, mechanical and signal and telecom departments. Selection is one CBT followed by a physical efficiency test, so you need both exam marks and fitness.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–33 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies get no age relaxation.
- PwBD candidates get 10 years (UR and EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) or 15 years (SC and ST).
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Serving railway Group C and erstwhile Group D staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service can apply up to 40 (UR and EWS), 43 (OBC-NCL) or 45 (SC and ST).
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried can apply up to 35 (UR), 38 (OBC-NCL) or 40 (SC and ST).
- Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in railway establishments get relaxation equal to their apprenticeship period, up to 3 years for UR and EWS.
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- Open to Indian citizens, and to citizens of Nepal, subjects of Bhutan and a few other groups named in the notice, who need a Government of India eligibility certificate.
- PwBD candidates, ex-servicemen and Course Completed Act Apprentices are exempt from the PET.
- Corrigenda 1 to 3 revised the post-wise and zone-wise vacancy tables, and Corrigendum 4 moved the last date for applications to 9 March 2026. Check the corrigenda on the RRB website for the current vacancy count.

What they ask
The CBT has 100 questions in 90 minutes, with reasoning carrying the most at 30. General Science is set at Class 10 CBSE level across physics, chemistry and life science, and GA leans on current affairs. The minimum marks to be shortlisted are 40% for UR and EWS and 30% for OBC-NCL, SC and ST. Three times the vacancies are called for the PET, where the weight-carrying test comes first and a fail there ends your attempt.
How to prepare
- Revise Class 10 NCERT physics, chemistry and biology. General Science is a quarter of the paper and the notice fixes it at that level.
- Put reasoning first in your practice plan, since it has 30 of the 100 questions.
- Clear the cut-off safely before chasing a high score: you need 40% as UR or EWS and 30% as OBC-NCL, SC or ST, after the one-third negative marking.
- Start PET training well before the result. Men must carry 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes and run 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds; women carry 20 kg and have 5 minutes 40 seconds for the run.
