About RRB NTPC Graduate
RRB NTPC Graduate is the Railway Recruitment Boards' exam for non-technical posts that need a degree, such as Station Master, Goods Train Manager and the clerk-typist posts in accounts and offices. The posts sit in pay levels 4 to 6 of the 7th CPC. One pair of computer-based tests is common to all six posts, and the post you get depends on your merit and the preferences you fill in.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–33 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies get no age relaxation.
- PwBD candidates get 10 years (UR and EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) or 15 years (SC and ST), only for posts marked suitable for their disability.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Serving railway Group C and erstwhile Group D staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service can apply up to 40 (UR and EWS), 43 (OBC-NCL) or 45 (SC and ST).
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried can apply up to 35 (UR and EWS), 38 (OBC-NCL) or 40 (SC and ST).
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- Open to Indian citizens, and to citizens of Nepal, subjects of Bhutan and a few other groups named in the notice, who need a Government of India eligibility certificate.
- Station Master, Goods Train Manager and Traffic Assistant have medical standard A-2. Candidates who have had LASIK or other surgery to correct eyesight are not eligible for A-2 posts.
- You can apply to only one RRB. A second application, to the same or another RRB, gets all your applications rejected.

What they ask
Both CBTs use the same three subjects, and General Awareness has the most questions: 40 of 100 in the first stage and 50 of 120 in the second. The GA list is wide, running from current events, polity and geography to Class 10 level science, basic computers and government schemes. Maths stays with arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. The first stage only screens candidates, and 15 times the vacancies are called to the second stage. For Station Master and Traffic Assistant, the merit list gives 70% weight to the second stage CBT and 30% to the aptitude test.
How to prepare
- Give General Awareness the largest share of your time. It carries 40 of 100 questions in the first stage and 50 of 120 in the second.
- Time your mocks for the second stage: 120 questions in 90 minutes leaves 45 seconds a question.
- Answer only what you can work out or eliminate down to one option, because every wrong answer costs a third of a mark.
- If you are putting Station Master or Traffic Assistant in your preferences, read the RDSO guidance on the aptitude test early. You need a T-score of 42 in every battery, and the test counts for 30% of your merit.
- For the typist posts, build your speed to 30 words per minute in English or 25 in Hindi on a computer with spell check turned off.
