About RPF Constable
RPF Constable (Executive) recruitment is run by the Railway Recruitment Boards for the Railway Protection Force and the Railway Protection Special Force. The post is at pay level 3 and is open to Class 10 pass men and women. After the CBT you must clear a physical efficiency test and physical measurements, and the appointment itself is made by the RPF zones or RPSF.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–28 years, counted on 1 July 2024.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- The normal limit is 18 to 25. CEN RPF 02/2024 allowed up to 28 as a one-time 3-year relaxation because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried get 2 years (UR and EWS), 5 years (OBC-NCL) or 7 years (SC and ST).
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- 15% of vacancies are reserved for women and 10% for ex-servicemen. Posts left unfilled in these groups go to men of the same category.
- The post is not suitable for PwBD candidates.
- Ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET but must pass the PMT.

General Intelligence and Reasoning (35 marks)
- Analogies, similarities and differences
- Spatial visualisation and orientation, visual memory
- Problem solving, judgement, decision making
- Verbal and figure classification, number series, non-verbal series
- Coding-decoding, statement-conclusion, syllogistic reasoning
General Awareness (50 marks)
- Current events and everyday observation
- Indian history, art and culture
- Geography, economics, general polity and the Indian Constitution
- Sports and general science
What they ask
The CBT has 120 questions in 90 minutes at Class 10 standard, and General Awareness carries the most with 50 marks. Arithmetic and reasoning have 35 marks each; the reasoning list includes non-verbal and spatial questions, not only verbal ones. You need 35% (UR, EWS and OBC-NCL) or 30% (SC and ST) to qualify. CBT marks decide merit, and 10 times the vacancies are called for the PET and PMT, which only need a pass.
How to prepare
- Make General Awareness your first subject. It carries 50 of the 120 marks, and the notice lists history, culture, geography, polity, economics, sports and science.
- Practise figure-based reasoning such as spatial orientation and non-verbal series, which the RPF syllabus names and many other railway papers do not.
- Start running training early. Men need 1600 metres in 5 minutes 45 seconds and women 800 metres in 3 minutes 40 seconds, with only one chance.
- Check your height and chest against the PMT table before applying, since failing the measurement ends your candidature.
