About Punjab Police Constable
Punjab Police fills constable posts in its district and armed cadres through a single application and a common computer-based test. Advertisement No. 01 of 2026 has 2,522 district cadre posts, and the force's public notice of June 2026 puts the armed cadre at 776, with a share of posts in each cadre kept for women. You rank the cadres when you apply, and that order cannot be changed afterwards.

General category: 18–28 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years

- SC and BC residents of Punjab: up to 33
- Regular employees of the Punjab, other state or central government: up to 33
- Ex-servicemen resident in Punjab may deduct their armed forces service from their age
Qualification
10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board or university by 1 January 2026 (matriculation for ex-servicemen). You must also have passed matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an equivalent Punjabi exam, by the same date.
Other conditions
- Minimum height: 5 feet 7 inches (170.2 cm) for men and 5 feet 2 inches (157.5 cm) for women.
- Women applying in the General category need a domicile certificate issued by the Punjab Government.
- Transgender candidates are treated at par with women for the physical tests.

What they ask
Paper I is 100 one-mark questions in two hours with no negative marking. General awareness is the largest section at 35 questions and covers Punjab's history, geography, culture and economy. After normalisation you need 40% in Paper I (35% for SC, BC, EWS and ex-servicemen) to reach the physical tests. Paper II is a separate one-hour test of 50 Punjabi questions; you must score 50%, but it adds nothing to your merit.
How to prepare
- Answer every Paper I question. There is no negative marking, so a blank is simply a lost mark.
- Give general awareness the most time, with a Punjab list of districts, rivers, history and economy, because it makes up 35 of the 100 questions.
- Start running practice before the CBT result. Men must cover 1600 m in 6 minutes 30 seconds in one attempt, and women 800 m in 4 minutes 30 seconds.
- Do not ignore Paper II. Scoring below 50% in the Punjabi paper rules you out whatever your Paper I score.
