About PSTET
PSTET does not fill any post. Passing it only makes you eligible to be considered when Punjab schools recruit teachers. SCERT Punjab ran the latest round, PSTET 2025, on 15 March 2026 through its portal pstet2025.org. Paper 1 covers Classes I to V and Paper 2 covers Classes VI to VIII, and you may take both if you hold the qualifications for each level.

Language I (Punjabi) and Language II (English)
- Comprehension and language proficiency
- Pedagogy of language development (about 45 to 50% of the items)
Mathematics and environmental studies (Paper 1)
- Concepts and problem solving from the Classes I to V syllabus
- Pedagogical understanding (about 25 to 30% of the items)
Subject section (Paper 2)
- Mathematics and Science, or Social Studies/Social Science, from the Classes VI to VIII syllabus
- Separate 60-question sections for Art and Craft, Physical Education, Home Science, Urdu, Music and Sanskrit teachers
What they ask
Each paper has 150 four-option MCQs of one mark each, runs for two and a half hours and has no negative marking. Topics come from the Punjab and NCERT syllabus for the classes you want to teach, though the difficulty can reach secondary level. Teaching method gets heavy weight: roughly 45 to 50% of each language section and 25 to 30% of the maths, science and social studies items test pedagogy.
How to prepare
- Read the Punjab and NCERT textbooks for the classes your paper covers, then practise questions set a level higher, since difficulty can reach secondary standard.
- Spend real time on pedagogy. It is close to half of each language section and about a quarter of the subject sections.
- Revise Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky with classroom examples. Child development items apply theory to learners aged 6 to 11 in Paper 1 and 11 to 14 in Paper 2.
- Attempt all 150 questions. There is no negative marking.
