About TN Police SI
TNUSRB recruits Sub-Inspectors of Police for the Taluk and Armed Reserve wings of the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Service, open to men, women and transgender candidates. Notification No. 1/2025, dated 4 April 2025, announced 1,299 vacancies (933 Taluk and 366 Armed Reserve) plus 53 shortfall vacancies, with 20% kept for serving police staff. Addendum 1A/2025 (31 October 2025) put departmental quota candidates into the same written exam as open candidates.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 20–30 years, counted on 1 July 2025.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 2 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- BC, BC(M) and MBC/DNC candidates: up to 32.
- SC, SC(A) and ST candidates: up to 35.
- Transgender candidates: up to 35.
- Destitute widows: up to 37.
- Ex-servicemen and ex-CAPF personnel discharged within three years of the notification date, and serving military personnel as specified: up to 47.

What they ask
The Tamil Language Eligibility Test has 100 one-mark questions in 100 minutes and needs 40 marks, but those marks are not used for ranking. The main written exam has 140 half-mark questions in two and a half hours: 80 on general knowledge (40 marks) and 60 in the psychology test (30 marks). You need 25 of 70 to qualify, and about five candidates per vacancy move on to certificate verification and the physical tests. The final 100 marks combine the main written exam (70), physical efficiency test (15), viva-voce (10) and special marks (5).
How to prepare
- With 140 half-mark questions in 150 minutes, speed matters. Take full-length timed mocks rather than untimed topic practice alone.
- The psychology test is 30 of the 70 written marks. Practise number series, logical puzzles and passage-based inference questions every day.
- General knowledge spans science, history, geography, polity, economics, nutrition, environment and current affairs; state board school textbooks are a sensible base for the static topics.
- The physical efficiency test (15 marks) and viva-voce (10 marks) add to your final score, so keep fitness training going from the start.
- Collect NCC, NSS and sports certificates early; special marks add up to 5.
