About OTET
OTET is the eligibility test for anyone who wants to teach Classes 1 to 8 in Odisha's government, aided and private unaided schools. BSE Odisha conducts it under School & Mass Education Department resolutions, and a pass is a requirement, not a job offer. If you are aiming only at private unaided schools, the rules also let you take CTET. BSE posted the OTET 2026 result in September 2026.
Eligibility
Qualification
Category A: Higher Secondary with at least 50% and a 2-year D.El.Ed or CT, or a 4-year B.El.Ed, or graduation with B.Ed (50%), among other routes listed. Category B: graduation with D.El.Ed, or 50% in graduation or post-graduation with B.Ed, or a 4-year B.El.Ed or integrated B.A./B.Sc. Ed, among others. SC, ST, SEBC and PwD candidates get 5% relaxation in the minimum marks, and final-year trainees may also appear.
Other conditions
- No age limit is given in the BSE eligibility document.
- Pass mark: 60% in a paper, or 50% for SC, ST, SEBC and PH candidates.
- You can sit again to improve your score after qualifying.

What they ask
Each paper has 150 one-mark questions in two and a half hours with no negative marking. In the subject sections, 20 of every 30 questions test content and 10 test pedagogy, so teaching methods carry real weight. Non-language questions come in both Odia and English. You need 60% to pass, or 50% if you are SC, ST, SEBC or PH.
How to prepare
- Since there is no negative marking, attempt all 150 questions.
- Put regular time into pedagogy: a third of every subject block is on how to teach, not just the content.
- Pick Paper II's Mathematics and Science or Social Studies block to match the subject you will teach, and revise the school textbooks for that block.
- Do one timed 150-question mock each week so the 2 hours 30 minutes feels routine.
