About OSSTET
OSSTET is the eligibility test for teaching in Odisha's secondary schools, whether government, aided or recognised unaided. BSE Odisha conducts it, and qualifying is a condition for appointment, not a job offer. Registration for OSSTET-2026 ran in August 2026 and admit cards appeared on the BSE site in September 2026.

Qualification
Paper I (Category I): a bachelor's degree with two school subjects and at least 50% aggregate (45% for SC, ST, PH and SEBC) plus B.Ed, or a 4-year integrated B.A.B.Ed or B.Sc.B.Ed. Hindi and classical language teachers have their own degree and training routes. Paper II (Physical Education Teacher): +2 plus C.P.Ed, D.P.Ed, B.P.Ed or M.P.Ed. Final-year trainees may also apply.
Other conditions
- You must be able to read and write Odia, shown by HSC with Odia as a language, +2 with Odia, or the BSE Odia single-subject exam.
- Pass mark: 45% (68 of 150) in the paper, or 35% (53 of 150) for SC, ST, PH and SEBC candidates.
- There is no limit on attempts, and the certificate stays valid until you cross the upper age limit for teacher recruitment.

What they ask
Each paper has 150 one-mark questions in two and a half hours with no negative marking. Odia and English (20 questions each) are compulsory for everyone. Section III is 60 questions on your stream, and Section IV is 50 questions on child development, pedagogy, school management and evaluation, asked in English. BSE Odisha publishes detailed stream-wise syllabi on its website.
How to prepare
- Section IV is worth 50 of the 150 marks for every stream, so give pedagogy, school management and evaluation steady weekly time.
- Split your Section III study by the fixed counts: for PCM that is 20 each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
- Do not skip Odia: its 20 questions are compulsory for all streams and count towards the 45% pass mark.
- Attempt every question in timed mocks, since there is no negative marking.
