About Lakshadweep LDC

The LDC exam fills Lower Division Clerk posts in the common clerical cadre of the Lakshadweep Administration, managed by the Secretariat's Services Section in Kavaratti. The latest direct recruitment notice, dated 13 September 2019, advertised 54 posts (20 general and 34 Scheduled Tribe) at Level 2 of the pay matrix, with 5 kept for ex-servicemen and 2 for persons with disabilities. CUSAT was given the job of running the test. After a Covid postponement, the written exam was held on 23 January 2021 and the computer skill test on 10 October 2021.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–30 years, counted on 14 October 2019 (last date of application in the 2019 notice).

Age relaxation

  • The upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST candidates, ex-servicemen and other special categories under Government of India orders. The notice does not print the number of years.

Qualification

Class 12 or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board or university, held on the closing date for applications.

Other conditions

  • Only local candidates of Lakshadweep could apply under the 2019 notice.
  • You must pass an English typing test on computer at 35 words per minute in 10 minutes (10,500 key depressions per hour).
  • Desirable: a computer application certificate course of at least 3 months from a government-recognised institution.
  • The notice says the post suits candidates with certain orthopaedic disabilities, blindness or low vision, and hearing impairment.

What they ask

The written test is one paper of 100 one-mark questions in 2 hours, set at Plus-2 level. The notice names five areas: science, mathematics, social science (history, geography, economy and polity), the history and geography of Lakshadweep, and current national and international affairs. It gives no section-wise split, so expect a mixed paper. You get the paper in English and Malayalam, and the English version counts if the two differ. The notice does not mention negative marking.

How to prepare

  • Make separate notes on the history and geography of Lakshadweep. The notice lists it as its own area, and mainland GK books give it very little space.
  • Revise NCERT science, maths and social science up to Class 12, since the notice fixes the level at Plus-2.
  • Sit full 100-question mocks in 2 hours on a printed OMR sheet. The paper is marked by bubbling, and you need 45% (40% for SC/ST) just to qualify.
  • Start typing practice early and time yourself for 10 minutes at 35 words per minute on a computer keyboard. The skill test is only on computer, and you cannot be selected without passing it, whatever your written score.

How to apply

  1. Download the employment notice and the prescribed application format from the Recruitment section of lakshadweep.gov.in.
  2. Fill in the form and send it so that it reaches the Director (Services), Lakshadweep Secretariat, Kavaratti by the closing date. In 2019 the deadline was 14 October, and applications that arrived late because of postal delay were not considered.
  3. Watch lakshadweep.gov.in for the list of applicants, the exam timetable, hall tickets and results.

Lakshadweep LDC FAQs

The 2019 notice invited only local candidates of Lakshadweep who had passed Class 12 and were 18 to 30 years old on 14 October 2019. SC/ST candidates, ex-servicemen and other special categories get age relaxation under central government orders.
