About Lakshadweep IRBn Constable

The India Reserve Battalion is a reserve police battalion shared by Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, with its headquarters at Kavaratti. It hires Constables (Executive) at Level 3 of the pay matrix (Rs 21,700 to 69,100). New recruitment rules published in the Lakshadweep Gazette on 17 August 2026 split direct recruitment half and half between natives of Lakshadweep and natives of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and set aside 20% of posts for ex-Agniveers. The most recent recruitment notice we found on lakshadweep.gov.in is a June 2020 special drive for 22 Scheduled Tribe backlog posts.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–30 years, counted on Closing date for applications (2026 recruitment rules).

Age relaxation

• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• Ex-Agniveers get 5 years of relaxation under the 2026 rules.
• Ex-servicemen and departmental candidates get relaxation as per central government orders.
• The June 2020 special drive for Scheduled Tribe backlog posts allowed ST candidates aged 18 to 37 on 1 January 2020.

Qualification

Class 12 (10+2) pass or equivalent from a recognised board. Ex-Agniveers need only a Class 10 pass under the 2026 rules.

Other conditions

• Under the 2026 rules, 50% of direct recruitment posts are for natives of Lakshadweep (including wards of UT government employees) and 50% for natives of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
• The 2020 special drive was open only to male Scheduled Tribe candidates, and the 2026 rules list only chest-based physical standards. Check the next notice before assuming women can apply.
• Physical standard: height 165 cm, chest 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded, and weight in proportion to height.
• Endurance test: 1600 m run in 6 min 30 s, long jump of 13 feet in 3 chances, 4 chin-ups, and a 7.26 kg shot put to 5.60 m. Ex-servicemen and departmental candidates get easier standards (8 min 30 s, 11 feet, 3 chin-ups and 4.60 m). Ex-Agniveers are exempt from the endurance test.
• Eyesight must meet 6/6 and 6/12, or 6/9 in both eyes, with correction, and you must pass the colour vision test. Knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins and squint disqualify you.
• Bonus marks: NCC B certificate 1%, NCC C certificate 2%, UT/State level sports 1% and national level sports 2%. The maximum is 2% for NCC and 2% for sports.
• 10% of posts go to departmental candidates working in the battalion as Multi Skilled Employees, and 20% to ex-Agniveers (10% from each side), over and above ex-servicemen.
• Probation is 2 years, and selected candidates must complete police training at a central or state police training school.

4. Document verification (qualifying)
5. Written examination: 100 objective questions in 2 hours; you need at least 40% to qualify
6. Medical examination (qualifying); the merit list is based on total written marks

Exam pattern

Lakshadweep IRBn Constable syllabus

What they ask

The 2020 notice describes one written paper of 100 one-mark objective questions in 2 hours, set at 10+2 level. It covers science, mathematics, social science (history, geography, economy and politics), the history and geography of Lakshadweep, and current national and international issues. Questions come in English, Hindi and Malayalam. You need 40% to qualify, and bonus marks for NCC or sports do not count towards that 40%. The notice says nothing about negative marking.

How to prepare

• Train for the 1600 m run first. The endurance test comes before the written exam, and you need to finish in 6 minutes 30 seconds to reach the next stage.
• Practise chin-ups, the long jump and the 7.26 kg shot put with a coach or at a ground. These events need technique, not just stamina.
• For the written paper, revise NCERT science, maths and social science up to Class 12, then add Lakshadweep's history and geography, which the notice names as a separate area.
• Keep your NCC B or C and sports certificates ready. They add up to 2% each as bonus marks under the 2026 rules.
• Take daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app to keep current affairs and basic maths fresh.

How to apply

1. Download the employment notice and the prescribed application form from lakshadweep.gov.in.
2. Attach self-attested copies of your age proof, educational qualification, caste or community certificate and, if it applies, departmental or service certificate.
3. Send the form so it reaches the Commandant, India Reserve Battalion HQ, Kavaratti (682555), or the Officer in Charge, IRBn, on your island, by the closing date.
4. Watch lakshadweep.gov.in for the checklist and the dates of the physical, document and written stages. The 2020 notice said no individual letters would be sent.
