About Lakshadweep Forest Guard
The Department of Environment and Forest in Kavaratti recruits Forest Guards through an open competitive exam for local candidates. Its notice of 12 December 2018 advertised 31 newly created posts (17 general and 14 Scheduled Tribe) at pay level 3 (Rs 21,700). Selection involves a physical measurement, a long walking test, two written papers and a medical board. The Conservator of Forests issues the notice, and all checklists and test dates are posted on lakshadweep.gov.in.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–30 years, counted on 25 January 2019 (last date of application in the 2018 notice).
Age relaxation
- The upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST candidates, ex-servicemen and other special categories under Government of India orders. The notice does not print the number of years.
Qualification
Senior Secondary (10+2) pass in Science from a government-recognised board, held on the closing date for applications.
Other conditions
- Only local candidates of Lakshadweep could apply under the 2018 notice.
- Minimum physical standards: men need a height of 163 cm and a chest of 84 cm with 5 cm expansion; women need 150 cm and 79 cm with 5 cm expansion.
- Physical endurance test: walk 25 km (men) or 14 km (women) within 4 hours.
- A medical board must certify you FIT for strenuous outdoor work.
- Selected candidates must complete a Forest Guard training course at a forest training college sponsored by the Government of India.

What they ask
The written test has two subjects, English with general knowledge and mathematics with science, each with 100 one-mark objective questions set at Plus-2 standard. You must score 45% in each subject (40% for SC/ST) to qualify, so a weak paper can knock you out even with a high total. The notice lists subjects only, with no topic-wise syllabus and no mention of negative marking. You only sit the written test if you have already cleared the physical measurement and the walking test.
How to prepare
- Build up to the walking test well before the dates come out. Covering 25 km in 4 hours means holding about 6.25 km per hour for men. The 14 km women's distance works out to 3.5 km per hour.
- Revise Class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry, biology and maths, since the qualification is a science Plus-2 and the paper is set at that level.
- Do not skip English. Each subject has its own 45% cut-off (40% for SC/ST), so grammar, vocabulary and comprehension practice matter as much as science.

How to apply
- Download the employment notice and prescribed application form from lakshadweep.gov.in.
- Attach self-attested copies of your age proof, educational qualification and community certificate.
- Send the form so it reaches the Conservator of Forests, Department of Environment and Forest, Kavaratti (682555) by the closing date. Late or delayed postal entries are not considered.
- Check the draft checklist on lakshadweep.gov.in and correct any defect it shows, then watch for test dates. The department gives at least 15 days' notice and sends no individual letters.
