About TN TRB PG Assistant
TRB recruits Post Graduate Assistants, Physical Director Grade I and Computer Instructor Grade I for the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Educational Service, in the School Education Department and other departments. Notification No. 02/2025, dated 10 July 2025, lists 1,996 vacancies (1,916 current and 80 backlog) on pay Level 18, Rs 36,900 to 1,16,600. Subjects include Tamil, English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, Economics, Commerce and Geography.

Tamil Language Eligibility Test
- Tamil at Class 10 level
What they ask
The exam starts with a 30-question Tamil Language Eligibility Test worth 50 marks in 30 minutes. You need 20 marks (40%) before your main answer sheet is evaluated, and these marks do not count towards rank. The main paper has 150 one-mark questions in three hours: 110 from your main subject at postgraduate level, 30 on educational methodology and 10 on general knowledge. Computer Instructor Grade I candidates get 130 computer science, 10 education psychology and 10 general knowledge questions instead. The minimum to qualify is 75 marks for Others, 68 for SC and SC(A), and 60 for ST. Tamil and English papers are set in that language; other subjects are bilingual.
How to prepare
- The main subject is 110 of 150 marks. Work through your subject's postgraduate syllabus from the TRB website unit by unit.
- Educational methodology carries 30 marks, so revise your B.Ed. teaching methods and educational psychology notes alongside the subject.
- General knowledge is only 10 questions; a short daily current affairs slot is enough to cover it.
- Practise the Tamil eligibility test at Class 10 level. Scoring below 20 out of 50 means your main paper is not evaluated.
