About MHC Office Assistant
The Judicial Recruitment Cell of the Madras High Court recruits Office Assistants and similar support staff for the High Court. Notification No. 72/2025, dated 6 April 2025, covered 137 Office Assistant, 87 Residential Assistant and 12 Chobdar posts along with Room Boy posts, on pay Level 1 (Rs 15,700 to 58,100). Applicants for this notification and Notification No. 73/2025 (Sweeper, Gardener and similar posts) write one common written exam.

Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC and BCM candidates and destitute widows of all castes: up to 37.
- Candidates from other states are treated as unreserved.
- Persons with benchmark disability (40% or more) get up to 10 extra years.
- Both limits already include a two-year increase for direct recruitment.

MHC Office Assistant syllabus
Part A: Tamil Eligibility Test
- General Tamil at Class 8 level of the Tamil Nadu state syllabus
- General English instead, only for eligible differently abled candidates
Part B: Basic Knowledge
- General knowledge and current affairs
- Basic arithmetic
- House-keeping and hygiene
- Food and beverage service, food production
- Office maintenance and upkeep of office equipment
What they ask
The common written exam has 65 one-mark objective questions in 90 minutes, with no negative marking, set at Class 8 level of the Tamil Nadu state syllabus. Part A is a 25-mark Tamil Eligibility Test and Part B a 40-mark bilingual basic knowledge paper; you need at least 10 marks in each part. Part B mixes general knowledge, current affairs and basic arithmetic with practical topics such as house-keeping, hygiene, food and beverage service and office maintenance. Only Part B marks are used to shortlist candidates for the 40-mark skill test.
How to prepare
- Part B marks alone decide who reaches the skill test, so put most of your effort into its 40 questions.
- Revise Tamil Nadu state board textbooks up to Class 8 for Tamil, general knowledge and arithmetic, since the syllabus is set at that level.
- Do not skip the practical topics in Part B: house-keeping, hygiene, food and beverage service and office equipment upkeep are all in the syllabus.
- There is no negative marking, so answer every question.
