About ISRO Technician
Technical support posts at ISRO are advertised by each centre, such as ISTRAC in Bengaluru or LPSC, rather than by ICRB. ISTRAC's Advertisement No. ISTRAC:02:2026, dated 27 June 2026 with applications closing on 20 July 2026, is the example used here. Technician-B and Draughtsman-B are in Level 3 (basic pay Rs 21,700) and Technical and Scientific Assistants in Level 7 (basic pay Rs 44,900). Trades, branches and vacancies change with each centre's advertisement.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–35 years, counted on 20 July 2026 (Advertisement No. ISTRAC:02:2026).
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- Ex-servicemen, persons with benchmark disabilities, meritorious sportspersons, and widows, divorced women and women judicially separated get relaxation under Government orders.

Other conditions
- Selected staff may be posted anywhere in India under the Department of Space.
- Only candidates screened in on academic performance are called for the written test.
- Fees under ISTRAC:02:2026: everyone first pays a processing fee (Rs 500 for Technician-B and Draughtsman-B, Rs 750 for Technical and Scientific Assistant), refunded after the written test less the application fee of Rs 100 or Rs 250 where it applies.

Written test (curriculum based)
- Technician-B: ITI/NTC syllabus of the notified trade, such as Electronics Mechanic or Carpenter
- Draughtsman-B: ITI syllabus of Draughtsman Civil or Mechanical
- Technical Assistant: diploma syllabus of the notified branch, such as Electronics or Mechanical
- Scientific Assistant: B.Sc syllabus of the notified subject
What they ask
The written test has 80 multiple-choice questions in an hour and a half, taken from the curriculum of the qualification the post asks for. A right answer earns 1 mark and a wrong one loses 0.33. You need 32 of 80 as an unreserved candidate, or 24 as a reserved candidate, to reach the skill test. The skill test is pass or fail at 50 of 100 for unreserved candidates, and your rank comes from the written test alone.
How to prepare
- Revise your ITI, diploma or B.Sc textbooks chapter by chapter. The advertisement says the written test is curriculum based.
- Do not guess blindly. A wrong answer costs a third of a mark, and you need 32 of 80 to reach the skill test.
- Keep your hands-on skills fresh. The skill test needs 50 of 100 for unreserved candidates and is conducted on your trade.
- If you hold a National Apprenticeship Certificate, add the score. It breaks ties in favour of NAC holders for Technician-B and Draughtsman-B.
- Check each ISRO centre's careers listing separately, because ISTRAC, LPSC and other centres advertise these posts on their own.

- Enter your academic scores carefully, since screening for the written test is based on them.
