About AAI Junior Assistant Fire Service
AAI's regional headquarters recruit airport firefighters as Junior Assistant (Fire Service) in the NE-4 level, pay scale Rs 31,000 to Rs 92,000, and each region takes only domiciles of its own states. The most recent advertisement on the AAI careers page is the North Eastern Region's No. 01/2025/DR/NER, open from 12 December 2025 to 11 January 2026 for 7 fire service posts. Earlier in 2025 the Northern Region listed 152 such posts and the Western Region 168. Rules below are from the North Eastern Region notice; check your own region's advertisement before applying.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–30 years, counted on 6 December 2025 (Advertisement No. 01/2025/DR/NER).
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- Ex-servicemen: 3 years after deducting military service from actual age.
- Regular AAI employees: 10 years.
- Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated who have not remarried: up to 35 (38 for OBC, 40 for SC/ST).
- Ex-Agniveers who completed four years of engagement: 3 years, or 5 years for the first Agnipath batch.

Other conditions
- Advertisement No. 01/2025/DR/NER was open to domiciles of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
- Height at least 167 cm for men and 157 cm for women; chest (men) 81 cm with at least 5 cm expansion; weight at least 55 kg for men and 45 kg for women. Hilly-area candidates get 3 cm off height (and chest for men).
- Eyesight 6/6 distant and N-5 near in each eye without glasses, with no refractive error; colour blindness or night blindness means rejection.
- Persons with disabilities are not eligible for this post.
- Holders of a medium or light vehicle licence must get a heavy vehicle licence within one year of appointment.
- Credit is given for Computer Science in Class 12, an NCC 'B' certificate, fire service experience or a recognised fire-fighting course.

What they ask
The written stage is a two-hour online test. Half the questions come from the subjects of your qualification and half from general knowledge, reasoning, aptitude and English. After that you face a driving test in a light motor vehicle and five timed physical events, and you need 60 of 100 across them. For men, a 100 m run slower than 16 seconds or a sandbag carry slower than 40 seconds scores zero in that event; for women the limits are 19 and 45 seconds. Your final rank comes from the CBT marks only.
How to prepare
- Start physical training early. For men, 100 m in 12 seconds earns the full 20 marks and anything over 16 seconds earns zero; the 50 kg sandbag carry scores zero beyond 40 seconds.
- Practise pole and rope climbing to full height. Partial climbs get fewer marks, and a climb below one-third height in the time limit scores nothing.
- Check your driving licence date against the advertisement date: a light vehicle licence must be at least two years old, and a learner's licence does not count.
- Get an eye test before you apply. You need 6/6 vision in each eye without glasses, and colour or night blindness leads to rejection.
