CTET Paper I and Paper II: qualification is not recruitment

Choose the correct CTET paper, understand its teaching level and qualification role, and check the revised December 2026 dates through official CBSE notices.

Passing CTET does not appoint you to a teaching post. It provides an eligibility qualification used within the applicable recruitment rules. You still need to meet the recruiting body's conditions and complete its selection process.

This guide covers the 22nd CTET edition. Sources were checked on 20 September 2026. The original bulletin carries a September label, but a later CBSE notice changes the examination dates.

Use the revised dates

CBSE's notice dated 14 September 2026 schedules the 22nd CTET edition for 12 and 13 December 2026. It says the allotted city and examination date will be available 15 days before the examination, with the admit card available two days before. See the official revised-date notice.

Do not book travel using the September date printed in the original bulletin. Your own allotted date and centre need to be checked when CBSE publishes them.

Which paper matches your teaching level?

Paper I is for Classes I–V; Paper II is for Classes VI–VIII. A candidate seeking both levels needs both papers, subject to eligibility. Each paper has 150 one-mark multiple-choice questions, two and a half hours, and no negative marking.

Paper I combines Child Development and Pedagogy, two languages, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. Paper II has Child Development and Pedagogy, two languages, and the applicable Mathematics/Science or Social Studies/Social Science component. Read the official information bulletin for the full structure and eligibility provisions.

Choose by the level you are eligible and intending to teach. Taking both papers without checking qualifications does not create eligibility for both levels.

Treat pedagogy as part of the subject

A candidate can know the answer to a school-level Mathematics question and still struggle with a question about how a child learns that concept. Keep those two error types separate during practice.

Suppose you can solve a fraction problem but choose a weak classroom response to a child's mistake. Repeating calculation drills will not address the second problem. Review what the child's response reveals and why a particular teaching approach fits it. That is the kind of distinction your error notes should preserve.

For language practice, work with complete passages rather than isolated vocabulary alone. Check whether you inferred more than the passage supports. Then review language-pedagogy questions separately so that a strong comprehension score does not hide a weaker area.

Use the CTET preparation page to organise a small daily routine, and compare full-paper performance over time. One unusually high topic-test score is a weak basis for deciding you have finished a section.

Check qualification and recruitment separately

The bulletin directs candidates to the applicable NCTE qualifications and recruitment rules, and says appearing in CTET does not mean eligibility has been verified. It also states that CTET qualification does not confer a right to employment. Before applying for a job, read that employer's notice afresh; do not rely solely on your CTET certificate.

Keep your teacher-education records, mark sheets, identity details, and application confirmation together. Compare names and dates before a recruitment deadline creates unnecessary pressure.

Where the result will appear

Start at the official CTET website and open its result link for the correct edition. An answer-key notice, a previous edition's result, and a certificate-download link have different purposes. This guide does not announce a result for the December examinations.

Save the complete scorecard and follow the official certificate instructions when available. For a different teaching qualification, read the UGC NET categories guide, or browse the exam guides directory.
