UPSC recruits Enforcement Officers and Accounts Officers for the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. What they ask
The test is a single two-hour objective paper in English and Hindi, and every question carries the same marks. Beyond general studies, it asks about labour laws, social security, accountancy, auditing and insurance, which match the work of an EPFO officer. The test counts for 75% of the final merit and the interview for 25%. The interview is marked out of 100, and the advertisement sets a minimum of 50 for UR, 45 for OBC and 40 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. UPSC also fixes a minimum for the test, cycle by cycle.
How to prepare
- Study industrial relations, labour laws and social security in India as a separate subject. It is one of the nine syllabus areas and needs its own notes.
- Revise basic accountancy, auditing and insurance even if you are not from commerce, since they form a full syllabus area.
- Practise two-hour mixed papers, and skip questions you cannot narrow down, because each wrong answer costs a third of its marks.
- Read each syllabus line as a topic list and make short notes for the specialist areas first, then fill in general studies.
