SSC CHSL 2026 stages: choose the right typing or skill-test preparation

Plan SSC CHSL 2026 preparation around Tier-I, Tier-II and your post-specific skill test. Check the new timing and avoid preparing for the wrong typing task.

Before downloading a typing exercise, check which CHSL post it is meant for. An LDC/JSA typing test and a DEO data-entry test are different tasks.

For CHSL 2026, Tier-I has four 25-question subjects with 15 minutes each. Tier-II includes academic subjects, Computer Knowledge and the applicable typing or skill test. Computer Knowledge and the skill component are qualifying. Official CHSL 2026 notice, paragraph 13.

Build your plan backwards from the post

Open the post and qualification section first. Mark the posts you are considering, then find the corresponding skill-test paragraph. Do not use a single “CHSL typing speed” screenshot as the specification for every post.

Make two practice tracks. One covers objective questions; the other covers computer use and accurate text entry. They can fit into the same day without needing the same amount of time. A short daily copying exercise is easier to maintain than discovering after a shortlist that you have barely used a keyboard.

For the academic track, take a diagnostic in each subject. Note where you lack the method and where you know the method but take too long. Learn an unfamiliar method without a timer first. Then practise it in a mixed set so that you also learn when to use it.

Check the mock's settings

A mock labelled “latest pattern” still needs inspection. Compare the question count and timer with the official scheme. In a sectional format, spare time in a quick subject should not quietly become extra time in a slower one during your simulation.

After each attempt, review the questions you never reached before checking the solutions. They reveal whether your question order cost you accessible marks. For mistakes, write a short correction rather than copying an entire explanation.

The CHSL typing guide covers language choice and accuracy practice. If you are considering DEO posts, use the relevant DEO instructions instead of treating LDC/JSA practice as a substitute.

Keep application dates separate from exam dates

The reviewed notice gives 7 October 2026, 11 pm as the application deadline and leaves both tier schedules to be announced later. An application deadline does not establish an examination date. Official notice, first page.

Submit with enough time to inspect the completed form and payment status. The photo and signature checklist can help before that final review.

While waiting for a schedule, use weekly targets you control: chapters revised, unfamiliar passages typed and mistakes corrected. A tentative calendar is useful for planning, but it should not be used to postpone a skill you already know you will need.

If you are following an older recruitment, read the CHSL result-stage guide with its cycle labels intact.
