What they ask

Prelims is a high-speed 100-question test in 60 minutes with strict 20-minute timers per section, and office-wise prelims cut-offs often cross 85 to 90 out of 100 because the paper is set at an accessible clerical level. Mains adds General Awareness (40 marks in 25 minutes) and a standalone Computer Knowledge section (40 marks in 20 minutes). You must clear every section's minimum cut-off in both stages, and there is no interview—final merit comes from the 200-mark Main exam subject to passing the local language test.

How to prepare

  • Apply only for an RBI regional office whose state language you can read, write and speak fluently, because the LPT is strictly enforced.
  • Build speed in simplification, number series and 5-question puzzles for Prelims—scoring 85+ requires high accuracy with minimal skipped questions.
  • Treat Computer Knowledge (40 marks in Mains) as a high-scoring booster by revising MS Office shortcuts, networking protocols and hardware/software terms.
  • Focus your General Awareness revision on banking news, RBI notifications and the last five months of current affairs.
  • Practise timed speed maths and puzzle sets daily on the free Improvam app.
