About NIACL AO
New India Assurance, a public sector general insurance company, recruits Administrative Officers in Scale I from the open market. The 2025 advertisement was for 550 posts, 193 of them in the Generalist stream and the rest in specialist streams. You can apply for only one discipline.

Age limit
General category: 21–30 years, counted on 1 August 2025.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Ex-servicemen: 5 years
- You must be born between 2 August 1995 and 1 August 2004, both dates included.
- Defence personnel disabled in operations get 3 years.
- Confirmed employees of public sector general insurance companies, including GIC and Agriculture Insurance Company, get 8 years.
- If you fall in more than one of these groups, the relaxations can be combined as per government guidelines and company rules, but your age cannot go above 45.

What they ask
The prelims has 100 questions in 60 minutes and you must clear every section; about 15 times the vacancies are called to the mains. For Generalists the mains has four 50-mark tests, each with a minimum score. The descriptive test asks for a letter and an essay, and you need 15 out of 30 (13.5 for SC, ST and PwBD) to qualify. Descriptive marks are not counted in merit, and the final list weighs the online exam and the interview 75:25.
How to prepare
- Prepare the four mains tests evenly. Each carries 50 marks and each has its own cut-off.
- Practise a formal letter and a 20-mark essay in 30 minutes; failing the descriptive test ends your candidature even with high objective marks.
- Read general insurance and financial news for the General Awareness test.
- Check that you have 60% in graduation or postgraduation (55% for SC/ST/PwBD) before applying.
