About LIC ADO
LIC recruits Apprentice Development Officers through a separate notice for each of its eight zones, and you apply to one division. It is a field marketing job: you find and train life insurance agents, bring in business through them and look after policyholders, with a lot of touring. The most recent ADO notices on LIC's website are from 2022-23; the North Zone notice alone listed 1,216 vacancies.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–30 years, counted on 1 January 2023.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Open market candidates must be born between 2 January 1993 and 1 January 2002, both days included.
- LIC employees may be up to 42 (45 for OBC, 47 for SC/ST).
- LIC agents and others such as DSAs/FSEs may be up to 40 (43 for OBC, 45 for SC/ST).
- Ex-servicemen get 30 plus their years of service, up to 42 (45 for OBC, 47 for SC/ST).

Other conditions
- Three recruitment categories: open market (up to 60% of posts), LIC agents (up to 25%) and LIC employees (up to 15%).
- LIC agents and employees need the service and premium record set in the notice; open market candidates with two years in life insurance or financial product marketing get preference.
- The spouse of an LIC agent cannot apply.
- Knowing the local language of the division is desirable.

What they ask
The prelims has 100 questions in an hour, but only reasoning and numerical ability (70 marks) count for ranking; English just has to be cleared. About 20 candidates per vacancy in each category move to the mains. The mains has 160 questions in 120 minutes, and the largest section, 60 questions, is on insurance and financial marketing. There is no negative marking in the online tests.
How to prepare
- Give the insurance and financial marketing section the most time; at 60 of 160 mains marks it is the biggest single section.
- Attempt every question in the online tests, since the notice says wrong answers carry no penalty.
- Prepare for the interview as a sales role: the job is recruiting and training agents, so be ready to talk about field work and touring.
